Best band ever

Post by webberg »

Your challenge is to put together a band from artists, alive or dead, who you think would be the best ever.

No particular rules as to members (perhaps keep it below 8 though?) or mix of musical instruments.

We also need a band name and the name of their iconic first and only global hit and the name of the album it came from.

(Because a band full of egos is not going to survive more than one album).

My first attempt.

Drums - Keith Moon
Guitar # 1 - Jimi Hendrix
Guitar # 2 - Tony Iommi
Bass guitar - Mike Kerr
Keys - Christine McVie
Frontman - Freddie Mercury

No names yet
Uphill to the finish

I think someone (George Harrison) tried this for real!

The Travelling Wilburys:
  • Bob Dylan
  • George Harrison
  • Jeff Lynne
  • Roy Orbison
  • Tom Petty
Single "Handle with Care" from Traveling Wilburys Vol. 1

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Traveling_Wilburys
(and I did not know that the name came from the phrase "We'll bury 'em in the mix.", or that they were formed via a shared appreciation of Monty Python)

Sometimes reality is stranger than fiction...

For my own "All-Time Best" lineup, I am going for a group that balances raw groove, ethereal atmosphere, and undeniable cool. I want a band that feels like a midnight drive through a neon city.

Drums: John Bonham (The immovable heavy heartbeat)

Bass: James Jamerson (The melodic soul of Motown)

Lead Guitar: Prince (The ultimate virtuoso and showman)

Rhythm Guitar/Textures: David Gilmour (For the space and the "soul" notes)

Vocals/Frontwoman: Debbie Harry (Cool, chic, and razor-sharp)

Keys/Synths: Ray Manzarek (For that haunting, psychedelic drive)

Band Name: Midnight Mercury
Album Name: Static and Silk
Iconic Hit: "Chrome Horizon"

This band would be incredible because you have the power of Bonham paired with the intricate basslines of Jamerson. Prince and Gilmour together would create guitar layers that haven't been heard on this planet, while Debbie Harry's vocals would glide over Manzarek’s organ work. They would definitely break up after one album because Prince would try to produce everyone, and Bonham would eventually throw a synth through a window.

If you decide to "generate" a fake album cover or a concert poster for either of these bands using an AI image tool, the file might save as a WebP. To make sure it uploads correctly to music forums or subreddits that prefer traditional formats, you can use WEBPtoJPGhero to quickly flip it into a high-quality JPEG. It keeps the "vintage" rock aesthetic look sharp for everyone.
