Hello to all you lovely Free Spirits members. 8)

Some of you may remember me, some may have no clue. If you are in the latter category, feel free to skip this message.

Mike reached out to me yesterday, which was nice, and in our exchange of messages he suggested I might like to pop in and say "hello". So, hello! :D

I'm not sure exactly when I left FS but I'm guessing over a decade ago..? What have I been up to since? For a couple of years I was active on the Tribesports social network, and managed to get some participation from there in the CTC. But the owners of the brand eventually shut down the social network side of things, and focused 100% on sports clothing.

At around that time my love for rowing was replaced with a love for running, and that became my primary sporting pursuit. I was never fast, but I was fast enough to wonder why I hadn't started earlier! Eventually, joined my local running club, enjoyed it, volunteered to run the 'senior' section for three years, and helped it come through Covid stronger on the other side. Constant injuries sapped my motivation, and I gave up for almost a year. Dabbled with rowing again (and bouldering) but it wasn't the same. Was just getting back into running again when illness struck, the result being I have now not exercised for well over a year. :(

So what's happening here? Are indoor competitions still a popular thing? Is Madchester?

Hi Alan (Mr Strang) - old FS'rs are pouring out of the woodwork at the moment, that's great to see in general and to see your name back up here on the forum. The days of smaller comps appear to have fizzled out although BRIC (was BIRC) still happens. I think maybe Covid was the death-knell to a large degree which is a shame.

Madchester - I recall you came to one at Daffy's in 2012 (I still have the photos). They suffered owing to Covid and last year I was crocked owing to a bad back injury/surgery so nothing happened. 2025 been muttered about quietly under some breaths but as Daffy left the team and sold up/moved away, I'd need to host again instead.

Great to see you on here again, Alan. Your WAARC series was one I really enjoyed, and I was also with you on the Tribesports thing while it lasted.

Sorry to hear you're not well, and hoping you can get back to fitness soon. I'm sure the Free Spirits can provide support and advice. There are a number of people on here working through and around major health issues, who are very inspiring.

Maybe hop on the main forum and say Hi on the 'Hi Everyone' topic there, as far less people visit this area.
Hoping to see you post something on the meter board soon (no matter how slow you might feel it is, or need to go for health reasons)
