November 1k CTC

The November 2024 CTC chosen by team Ski Erg will be a 1000m time trial in honor of the annual Concept 2 SkiErg World Sprints taking place November 7th - 10th!
This would be a great opportunity to participate in two events with one workout! Complete a 1000m ski from Nov 7-10th to join in on the SkiErg World Sprints AND submit your score for the CTC SkiErg Team! We would love to see more participation in both of these events.
If you already submit row scores for CTC, and you ski but don't have a CTC account for SkiErg, remember you can make a second account and join team SkiErg to submit both!
Mat, invitation to you?

It does sound like great timing for me as I get used to my new Ski Erg!

I assume this IS the case, but I did send an e-mail to Inside Indoor/British Rowing seeking clarity on this. I have received no reply as of yet several days later. I've got a SkiErg as well, so I was thinking of setting up a second account (e.g. Aren T SkiErg or something), registered for the Ski Erg team, and then also completing the CTCs on my SkiErg. It is surely a perfectly OK/encouraged thing to do, but I couldn't see anything explicitly written about this.
If they don't reply, I'll just go ahead and do it, as it makes sense to give the CTC a go on the SkiErg and do/enter the C2 SkiErg performance series at same time for November. Also, doing so will alllow me to stop "guessing" as to my relative power/FTP gap between the the RowErg/SkiErg, and actually see, on an all-out effort (across various set pieces), what the actual wattage gaps are.

Planned to have a go at this today, but sat down on the erg and found that my HR monitor wasn’t working. Twenty mins changing battery, checking again, and even trying a new strap, all to no avail
By then my mind wasn’t really in it, but warmed up for 2k and then set off on the CTC attempt… but baled after 200m!
Rescued the session with an attempt on the Skierg. With no idea what I’d manage, having only had the machine for a couple of weeks, I was quite pleased, and will have a go at beating this later in the month (after I’ve done the row!)

Now to try and set up a Skierg account for the CTC!

Lots of good rowing if little on this thread. Went into this to get it over having had 3 days off rowing. Couldn't get HR up in warm up, short of threshold even with 4 ramps, should have gone further (Sakly on main forum did 5k at increasing pace!) and only just reached threshold in actual 1k! Disappointed in not being able to raise the rate much at the end as I finished with a 1:46 could have pushed harder, but won't get another chance at this. I will take beating last season's SB (one of my best that year) if only by 0.1S on rounding down (thank heavens for that 1:46 stroke!), 20 nonathlon points, disappointingly 5 less than last year due to improved target!
Time Distnc Rate Pace Hrmax % HRmin %
00:44.7 200 32 01:51.8 153 83.2% 106 57.6% - Good start with 2 extra 1:50 strokes at R31 than intended, settled to 1:52
00:45.2 200 33 01:53.0 159 86.4% 153 83.2% - Much harder failing to hold 1:53 by end
00:45.5 200 32 01:53.8 164 89.1% 159 86.4% - Surprised at pace as no 1:55s seen and raised to 1:52 for last 30-40M, struggling to hold rating
00:45.3 200 33 01:53.2 164 89.1% 161 87.5% - Struggling to hold pace and rate, little impact of second push
00:44.4 200 34 01:51.0 166 90.2% 164 89.1% - Only responded in second half, last stroke 1:46, so where was that before?
3:45.0 1000 32.8 1:52.5 166 90.2%

Thanks Alan, I use normal DF for 1k, currently elevated at 126. Last year's 3:45.1 was at 115.
PS, when I rowed Saturday I found that my C-Breeze had come off so I ended at about DF140, although don't know whether this happened during the warm up or the sprint finish!

Felt quite rested this morning so had in mind to rerow my last effort. If all felt good. Went out faster than I thought was wise but HR stayed reasonable so I ignored the 200m splits and just went 100m at a time, looking to hold 49s as long as possible
In the end, managed a reasonable sprint finish and a tie to my PB.

Well done to Iain and Ian - nice rowing
I finally had another shot at this, and whilst I’d promised myself a proper warm up, decided after around 500m just to get on with it!
The row went something like this:
“Doesn’t feel too bad but it’s early days… not even halfway yet… okay past halfway, just 50 strokes to go… don’t like this but if I bale now then everything so far is wasted… 200m to go, I could short stroke to sprint the final part, but that feels like it’ll be too much so just keep on going… phew”
Surprised by the consistency in pace!

Well done everyone so far, left my entry a little late but at least it's over quickly.
A bit of a fly and die effort, I felt fit enough but just don't have the endurance power in the legs any more

The threatened PB came to past - next to nothing in the tank and very pleased as I thought I'd outpaced myself in the first 200m.
Tako - you weren't a target, but you've a weekend to restore order

Great effort from everyone to now have 7 boats floated! Great row Ian, it was only a matter of time before you beat the last PB I had over you! Spider, never happier to be dropped down a boat, impressive sprint that i couldn't produce. I am still in august company in Boat 3, I need to enjoy it as I may drop again if Aren has lost his last pound or 2 to become lightweight!
