If I was not a rower, I would do this sport instead ...

Like many of us, I've been a fairly active player of sport and physical activity most of my life.

I found rowing in about 1997 and started recording metres in spring 2004. Whilst some seasons have been more productive than others, I've been at it (ever more slowly) ever since.

I played football to a decent level until 1984. Then injury forced me to a cycle. Then children (and the time they absorb) forced me to running - eventually to HM.

I've done a fair bit of swimming, mainly when in rehab for knees/shoulder problems.

These days it's the rower, less cycling (but still love to go spinning), long walks.

It would have been wonderful to have excelled at one of the various activities but sadly I was bang average or slightly below.

Given my time again and if I knew then what I know now, I think I would have stopped football when it was obvious I was not going to "make it" and probably turned to the bike.

What about you?

If we're talking recreationally, I'd choose cycling/Mountain Biking and/or Skiing probably.
I still do weights (and have done more recently than for a long time, and enjoyed the experience again).

In terms of doing a sport competitively, I'm not sure - I dabbled in a few other things, but rowing was always the one that suited me most...

The only sport I have ever been more than passable at was table tennis. I played for 18 years (2 teams for about 9 of those) and coached for 3. I was never very good, generally as an adult being slightly above halfway up local leagues. I enjoyed it, but found that without regular practice in season (in addition to generally weekly matches) I was going backwards and was frustrated with this, but was not prepared to make the sacrifices elsewhere to make the necessary time so I stopped.
56 year old Lwt (in ability and in weight) trying to develop a technique that doesn't cause hysterics and continue to row regularly.
