Is the metreboard broken?

Post by webberg »

I keep getting error messages.

That said I am not good with technology and I could be doing something wrong.

It's working for me. Can you check again? Can you tell me what error messages are you getting?

Is anyone else seeing this? I can’t reproduce the error.

Is this definitely the current Meterboard and not an old version that you have bookmarked? The easiest way to get to the current one is via our homepage.

Or follow this link - https://www.freespiritsrowing.com/meterboard3/index.php

Hi JonT
I get the same error code. If I log out I can see the overall meterboard.

Fatal error: Uncaught mysqli_sql_exception: You have an error in your SQL syntax; check the manual that corresponds to your MySQL server version for the right syntax to use near 'ORDER BY 1' at line 1 in /home/fssandbox/www/www/meterboard3/mb2-phpmysqli.php:38 Stack trace: #0 /home/fssandbox/www/www/meterboard3/mb2-phpmysqli.php(38): mysqli_query(Object(mysqli), 'SELECT member_i...') #1 /home/fssandbox/www/www/meterboard3/mb2-phpmysqli.php(94): phpmysqli->query('SELECT member_i...', 1, false) #2 /home/fssandbox/www/www/meterboard3/mb2-phpmysqli.php(100): phpmysqli->row(Array) #3 /home/fssandbox/www/www/meterboard3/mb3-class-Rower.php(185): phpmysqli->get('mb2_Members', 'member_id', '`member_C2id` =...') #4 /home/fssandbox/www/www/meterboard3/mb3-main-board.php(71): Rower->getMemberIDFromC2ID(NULL) #5 /home/fssandbox/www/www/meterboard3/index.php(42): require_once('/home/fssandbox...') #6 {main} thrown in /home/fssandbox/www/www/meterboard3/mb2-phpmysqli.php on line 38

I get the same error when I click the link at the top of the screen. I had to load many times until it was good, then I bookmarked it. When I load the bookmark it works every time, but the link gives an error (same as above). I'm using Windows Chrome.

That's very odd. Clicking the link (by which I assume you mean "Meterboard" on the main web page) will always take you to the same page on the server. So clicking multiple times should always give you the same result. The only differences will be cookie settings used by the Meterboard (e.g. your forum user id and concept2 user id) and whether there is anything odd going on with the browser cache.

Your bookmark will also be to the same link which is this one.

If anyone is getting the error, can they cut and paste the link from their browser into a reply to this message please?

I don't have a huge amount of spare time at the moment, and this looks like a very intermittent problem that most people are not seeing, which will make tracking it down very tricky. The error message that people are getting points to quite an esoteric part of the Meterboard, but the mysql that it refers to is perfectly valid, so that's also a puzzle.

It is really helpful to have people confirm that there is definitely an issue lurking. When I get a moment I will probably make a clean copy of the entire site over to our mirror site and see if I can break the site on that side. I can be a bit more brutal over there without the risk of breaking our live site.

If anyone else sees the issue and gets a chance to work out why they see it sometimes and not others then please let me know.

All links work for me.

Jon -- you don't think this is a cookies & browser issue? Im using Firefox ver 132.0.2 on Linux.

Cheers,

Yes, I suspect it is cookies. The Meterboard uses a cookie to save your forum id and also your Meterboard id. If they are getting corrupted then the attempt to fetch data from the database would fail (sometimes). That would explain why Michael can see the Meterboard when he is not logged in - the cookie is cleared and the id is set to 1 and is no longer used in the database query.

If someone sees this issue it would be useful to (a) check the values of the cookies. In Firefox use Ctrl-Shift-I and then select Storage>Cookies. Look for FSforum_user_id and member_id or (b) delete all cache and cookies from your browser and try again.

No problems for me. I do note that currently last year's holiday challenge is showing up, not sure whether this will self correct when the challenge starts or whether some tweaking is required.

Thanks for all your hard work Jon.

That was my fat fingers at play. I had updated all of the challenge details except the one telling it where to go and look for results. I've fixed that now and rounded up the stray snowmen #-o
