New ctc site
Hi all,
as some of you might have heard or read, a new hosting site for the ctc is about to happen. The current site is a bit dated to say the least, entering a score via Iphone is a pain unless you use the ergzone app, you cannot reset your own password etc.
I contacted Rod Chinn who is one of the people behind this changeover and told him that Free Spirits would like to continue on the new ctc site which he confirmed.
As of now a test site should start in February and the new site should go live at the beginning of March.

I had a quick chat with Rod Chinn today. The change over to the new site is apparently running smoothly and hopefully I can provide you with more details next week.

Thanks Peter. The sooner we get a look the better. Our CTC tool will definitely stop working when they launch the new site and it will take some time to get it back up and working again. I'm sure it will be worth it for the improvements though.

Re: New ctc site
I just received the following message by Rod Chinn:
„ Hi Peter,
Looks like we're ok to roll out a 'test' sight for everyone on the 1st of March.
The 2 sites will run side by side for a month then just the new one.
People will need to enter them sleves on the new data base as the old one won't transfer and is badly out of date.
I have a meeting this afternoon to confirm that it can be used easily with Phones.
The old ''Password Incorrect'' bug when setting up an account has been removed!“
Looking good so far
Jon, I hope a month both sides running simultaneously is enough to get out ctc tool running again?

Re: New ctc site
Next update just came in:
„ I've just had a meeting with the new hosts (they are ''hosting'' it on their server...they will not be in charge of it.....that will be by consensus of the teams as it is at the moment) and it will be launched on the 1st of march as mentioned.....and scores will need to go on it so no scores on the old one...only the new one.
There will be plenty of info and a video going out on how to do that.
I've seen it and it's really simple!“

Re: New ctc site
So that sounds like they will not be parallel running the sites. At least I have a month to try to get the tool working. Just to complicate things the tool will actually need to access the current site for January and February and then the new one for events after that. Oh joy.

Update from Facebook:
„ @everyone
Attention!
The CTC is moving to a new site on 1st March 2024. The old site will no longer accept entries.
https://insideindoor.com
You will need to go there and register yourself an account. A slightly more detailed post will follow on Thursday explaining the sign up steps, if it isn’t obvious when you go to the site.
The site looks exactly as the old one did, but with a different header, and minus the need to scroll through to find your name in the drop down list, and a handy ‘forgot password’ feature, so I don’t get any more annoying messages asking for password resets.
New features to the site can be added in time, subject to community approval.
We hope you continue to enjoy participating in the CTC for many years to come.“
„You’ll be able to select a team from Friday when the new challenge goes live.
https://insideindoor.com/register-free/
This link takes you straight you registration “

Re: New ctc site
For those of you who aren’t watching the C2CTC thread, things are a bit rocky in the new site. Right now, everyone entering a result is entering on behalf of the CTC organiser. It also isn’t completely clear to me how registration works (e.g. is my username also my rower name, and do i need to keep the name the same as on the old site?).
I’m sure they will sort all of this out, but for now I would leave it alone and just record any 2K time at home and enter later.
The old site will also be decommissioned at some point soon, so I don’t know what (if anything) will happen to the event history.

Re: New ctc site
Update from Facebook:
„ @everyone
Welcome to the new home of the Cross Team Challenge, hosted on Inside Indoor and powered by British Rowing. It’s been a pleasure to take on this challenge and ensure the longevity of the CTC for years to come. I’d like to recognise the hard work of Daren Chandisingh and Dougie Lawson over the years and thank them for all they have done for the CTC.
While the new site has a similar look and feel there are a couple of key differences.
To access the CTC you will need to create an account on Inside Indoor. This can be done via this link here: https://insideindoor.com/register/
If you forget your password or login details, don’t worry, you will be able to reset your password whilst logging in without having to go through Team Managers or Administrators.
Once you have logged into Inside Indoor, the CTC can be accessed via this link as well as all of the guidelines and how the boats are formed: insideindoor.com/ctc-challenge/
Click on ‘Participate Now!’ to take you to the familiar screen with the individual and boat rankings.
When accessing the page for the first time, this is your time to select your Team from the drop down menu, as well as your category (open/open lightweight/female/ female lightweight)
Please take care when selecting your team as you will have to request to change it if you select the wrong one.
Once you have clicked ‘Update’ you will then be able to enter your score. Again, please take care when entering your score as you will have to request it to be changed if entered incorrectly.
Any changes to times or teams should be submitted via email to insideindoor@britishrowing.org
And that’s it! Your score will be automatically added to the rankings and boats will be formed accordingly, as per the system you are all familiar with.
This first month is all about transitioning to a new website so we have kept it nearly identical to the site that you are all used to. Please bear with us if anything looks slightly different or there’s an incorrect time. All will be amended but by the end of the month, when scores are tallied up, all will be well
I should say, thank you for all of the feedback and suggestions that were made a couple of months ago. These have all been developed and are ready to be rolled out, should the CTC community want to. We’ll listen to you guys about when and how those would be made.
Any changes to times or teams should be submitted via email to insideindoor@britishrowing.org
I look forward to seeing all the 2km scores being added over the next month! — mit Fergus Mainland.“

Re: New ctc site
This seems to be working better now. Some changes from the old site that it is worth noting:
- You can now reset your password without having to contact the administrators.
- You can use this as an opportunity to get a new user name (I have managed to switch away from Jon P Taylor to simple JonT). Your new user name in the competition will be the one you used to register on the new site
- You can enter multiple scores in a month, but the fastest is always stored and displayed. This means if you enter a fast time by mistake you have to request it is changed via email
- Boats are only displayed when they are full, which is a shame. I liked the view of boats starting to fill. This will present a challenge for our analysis tool too. Now is not the time to request a change.

Re: New ctc site
I'm not sure I am going to be able to rewrite the tool if the design of the new site stays the way it is. Right now it is impossible to view the current standings unless you have logged in to the site. This is fine when you are sat at home viewing in a browser, but our CTC tool is sat on a separate server and will not be able to remotely access the tables to carry out the analysis. I'll keep scratching my head, but right now it doesn't look good.

Re: New ctc site
Wonder if you could create a separate account and then just have it log in as part of its flows, client might be able to retain the login cookie and use that in subsequent calls perhaps? It'd be nice if they exposed some way to see this without being logged in, and be able to see non floating boats is key (I'll be bummed to submit scores and not even see them until a whole boat floats).

Re: New ctc site
A few people have posted here about a 'feature' which probably poses a security risk to the new CTC site. I have emailed the guys who have created the site about this. It is probably best if we don't write about it here and highlight the issue, and so I have deleted the messages from this thread.

Re: New ctc site
The other thing I just realised is that our calculations for the CTC tables will probably need to change if they keep the new site as it is. The current calculation for a floating boat is:
points = total boats in this CTC - boat position of this boat
...but that will give a far lower score if only floating boats are displayed for the CTC overall. For example, last month there were 193 boats in total with only 154 afloat . In December it was 139 afloat out of 178. So it may be that we just calculate the scores and then multiply by something like 1.2
I do hope they change things back so unfilled boats are displayed.

Re: New ctc site
Making slow progress. This is all just plain text at the moment, but the output of the new tool is below. You'll see that I have managed to combine rowers that are in and not in a boat which was slightly tricky given the layout of the new site. The list of rowers is in ranked order rather than boat order at the moment. I may need to look at that possibly. I've used a factor of 1.2 to compensate for the fact that the total number of boats is now only those that are afloat in the CTC. I imagine this may change at some point. The slightly odd thing is that Pete Tullett is listed as a lightweight rower on the CTC site but as a heavyweight when he shows up in FS II. That looks like a bug on the CTC site to me. Anyway....
Total Number of boats in CTC this month is 24.
Total number of Free Spirit boats afloat this month is 12.
Position of highest boat is 7 giving a score of 20. (24 - 7)*1.2
Total number of Free Spirit rowers this month is 10.
Lowest score of our floating boats is 10
Kay Bieri (H) has recorded a score of 7:10.8 and has 20 points and is afloat.
Ian BEE (L) has recorded a score of 7:16.2 and has 20 points and is afloat.
Jon Burch-hyson (H) has recorded a score of 7:19.4 and has 20 points and is afloat.
Rob Greene (H) has recorded a score of 7:23.9 and has 20 points and is afloat.
Jon Taylor (L) has recorded a score of 7:50.3 and has 10 points and is afloat.
Christian Hartlep (L) has recorded a score of 7:55.1 and has 10 points and is afloat.
Pete Tullett (L) has recorded a score of 8:09.9 and has 10 points and is afloat.
Jan Haveman (L) has recorded a score of 8:14.2 and has 10 points and is afloat.
Philip Price (L) has recorded a score of 8:52.0 and has 4 points and is ashore.
Brit Haugseng (F) has recorded a score of 9:14.9 and has 20 points and is afloat.
Sheena Haveman (F) has recorded a score of 9:18.8 and has 10 points and is afloat.
David Plumb (H) has recorded a score of 9:26.1 and has 4 points and is ashore.
There are 1 heavyweight, 1 lightweight and 0 female rowers still ashore.
