November ctc - a simple 10k!

Post by Grobi »

Hi everyone,

Argentina IRT have chosen the Nov 2023 Challenge, it is " To row 10000 meters, with no restrictions".

Sounds nice :D
Athletes row, others just play games

In my condition the 10k itself is a restriction! :-(

Probably will give this a first shot Saturday - see if I can use this month as an excuse to improve my 10k SB. Glad to see Steve Smith planted the Free Spirits flag in the first dozen rowers (and don’t expect to get near his time which would e a PB for me ha)

Had an easy 3x3000m on my schedule for today, so took the chance to program it as a 10k to get a score in for the team as I am not sure many will give the 10k a go this month.

Looks like my HRM needs a new battery or a turn in the washing machine as it was not correct/precise in second half.

Nice one Tako =D> =D>

I had a 30’R20 scheduled today and decided to lengthen it a little with a 10kR20 to get a score on the board whilst I gird my loins for a free-rate effort later in the month.

My HR monitor is playing up too… reading 230+ or 0 yesterday so I left it off this morning

Nice one guys.
Been a while since I went sub 40 for a 10k as most of my rows are much shorter now. So I’m going to try and use the month to see if I can bring it down.
1st - 40:12, not horrible, slowed at 7500m. But 12s seems an awful long time to make up, gulp.

Circuit training was cancelled, so I had an early run at this.

Remembered why I don't do it very often about half way through.

Ok a 10k in the bag, new SB as promised, we’ll see if I run this again later in the month - 10k is a bit long in my current decrepit training “program”…

On the plus side pretty consistent with small negative splits.

Well done Rob, that's a good stroke rate for a big guy!

Had my 2nd attempt today, after 16k yesterday done as 1k easy/1k sub 2:00 gave me some confidence to go sub 40.
39:46.6 / 23 :-)
I'm delighted with this as it's been a couple of years.
Crazy how what was once a routine training piece is now a time trial

Well done for all the PBs and SBs already this month =D> =D>

Took a shot at a free rate 10k this morning for the first time in a very long time - happy with the result.
There may be more in the tank but only if I can have another go before going on hol next weekend!

With the motivation from Claudius, two objectives:

1: sneak ahead of Wolfie
2: try to bundle my way into boat 1

Here it is:

Which turned out to be a PB.

Congratulations on the PB Ian. Did you realise it was in the cards during the session?

Thanks both.

I think I only knew sub 39 (ha! - every tenth counts 😉 ) was a possibility in the last 500m so form went out the window for that last few minutes. I was hoping for low 39s when I started....

Well done Colin, good job ticking that one off.

I think this might be my first missed CTC in... (no idea). My back/hips/piriformis seems to be falling apart so 15 mins or so is my limit and I suffer for that the day after.

I may try this again on Thursday --- I'm not feeling super strong in the long distances, and it's sub 40 to get into boat 2 now!! haha. In fact, it'd be only 2 seconds off my PB 10k to get in boat 2, so ... that's hardly motivating!

Thx Dave, really sorry to hear your having problems on the erg, only advice I can offer is to take things easy but don’t stop even if it means just slow walking and don’t exercise with any pain and if no improvements probably best to throw some money at it. Hope it improves soon matey.

No joy on another try at this one.. I pushed out 2k at the "right pace" but just didn't feel it -- was using damper 7, it was maybe just a little too hard. Tried the same thing with damper 4, it's too much work to get the same pace ... I suppose my usual 5/6 is just about where it's best for me. On to next month's!
