October CTC: 200m Sprint
"October CTC as voted for by MAD Team is a 200m sprint. No slides allowed. "
That sounds like a real(-lly) MAD challenge...
Hope the clarification isn´t offensive to anyone

37s for try #1. Happy about reverse splitting the 100m, first at 19, second at 18. Sad that by the time I put our first Free Spirits entry on the board, The Diamonds had already floated 4 complete boats!!

This is on slides. No entry. I will do another one on one of my static. To have a comparison.

Re: October CTC: 200m Sprint
Thank you both of you.
I felt a little bit tired today, after yesterdays HM, + MTB +200m sprint, and I was @work- so I could made a 200m go on the static. It went according to plan. As expected slower. I wrote something in the FB group, it is my worst erg means, it is indeed not in an optimal condition like my older Mod.E and of course the newest Erg. Maybe so soon a new go on the newest Erg.

There’s not been many CTCs that one could contemplate as a short-sharp warm up before a strength session, but here we go

Good god, 54 SPM. I don't know how you do it (much less Claudius at ... 62.. but I blame the slides. Isn't that what the cool kids say???). Seriously, my hat's off to you guys. I think I rowed 37 once and was like that's as fast as this little engine is gonna go.

Re: October CTC: 200m Sprint
Cheers Rob - to be honest with such a short distance the only way to go for me is "short-sliding" so I'm not doing much more than 1/2 a stroke each time, allowing time to get back quickly. It's not pretty but it accounts for the high rating! (My usual rating for almost everything is around 24-25 SPM!)obirobsan wrote: ↑Thu Oct 05, 2023 3:21 pm Good god, 54 SPM. warmed up with 45 minutes cleaning the garage. Philips time frightened the life out of me, but after a first go to get the feel of it felt more confident and sort of went for it.

Re: October CTC: 200m Sprint
Rowed a standalone 17.5 100m to update my best (actually a new PB, hooray), so redid the 200m. Did 17.5 again on the first 100m, 16.8 on the 2nd, and called it a day at 34.3 -- couldn't quite catch Claudius and Matt. (FYI - first minute 38 SPM, second minute 35 SPM) - I still can't get into the 50s and 60s!!! (I did this one using max damper to see if that'd give me a bit of advantage, maybe it helped... dunno. hah)

Re: October CTC: 200m Sprint
I'm still having issues with my back but the osteo reckons it's not a disc issue, just a bad pull. That said, 3 weeks in, it's still sore all the time so the current chances of me putting in a competitive time on this one are slim to none. I can't remember when I last didn't do a CTC (I may have missed a Feb 14th one owing to being nowhere near a machine once) so I'm determined to do this one no matter how slow.

Re: October CTC: 200m Sprint
Did my first CTC in quite a while today. Unable to post my time for some reason, but will try again over the weekend after I get back home from Portugal. For the record, I managed 39.5 seconds.
I’ll also ask the lovely Jennifer to post a time next week. I know we’re always short of Fs to complete boats.

Re: October CTC: 200m Sprint
My wife Jennifer did the monthly challenge today, but can't enter her time as she cannot remember her password. Is there a password reset option, or will she have to register as a new member?

Re: October CTC: 200m Sprint
I tried entering her as a new member, with no luck, so I've sent a pm to Dougie. Hopefully, I'll be able to enter her time within the next couple of days so that we can float another boat.Paul Victory wrote: ↑Sun Oct 22, 2023 1:56 pm My wife Jennifer did the monthly challenge today, but can't enter her time as she cannot remember her password. Re: October CTC: 200m Sprint
Hi Paul same here, I actually got my good wife Chris to Erg the 200m that’s a first by the way then tried to enroll her into c2 and free spirits failed on both so finished up using my eldest daughters CTC account. This is a bit unacceptable but hey at least it’s a boat floated and it may even encourage more ladies. If it’s out of order I’ll delete back to how it was.

Re: October CTC: 200m Sprint
Well done everyone.
I just can't get the hang of this. Last weeks' 500m training sessions had a little impact on this, but I've no earthly clue how Claudius gets that power

Re: October CTC: 200m Sprint
Gave it one last shot - probably my last one, this try twinged my back a bit. It started like this…
Let’s see how people do fast stroke rates - damper 1
50 spm!! Yeah baby but 20.3 is way off my usual 100m so let’s try damper 5
Oh yeah even higher stroke rate and faster. Well if 5 is good, 10 is better!
17.2!! What that beats my season best! Maybe I can do the magic with the 200m challenge!!
Negative ghost rider. About a second slower than my long hard pull method. Ah well…..

Well done. I presume your daughter is Jo Goddard? I finally managed to get Jen's time recorded and I also improved my time by 1.2 seconds to 38.3 (sorry!), so we now have three boats floated, with me in the prow of boat III. I'm sure there are lots of other female members just aching to have a go at this challenge!

Re: October CTC: 200m Sprint
Leaving it to almost the last minute as usual. After finishing the AIRC races Saturday, Monday afternoon seemed suitable to have a go. Tried normal df of 111 to get 41.5. Upped df to 153 and got 41.1. That'll do.

Five boats afloat this month
57 years old, 5"10', clinging on to 75kg and frustratingly but understandably inconsistent
