Log cards for CONCEPT 2 Model D PM3

Post by Flybynight »

Hi I’m new on here… and resurrecting my rowing by buying a secondhand machine. Before I def buy, I have spotted one online but it comes without a log card. Is this going to be a problem only the machine is 13 years old! It’s hardly been used…
Full service needed or can I simply perform the recommended regular use checks as per Concept2.co.uk support website?
All advice most welcome! 😊

Welcome to the group. In general Concept2 machines are pretty bomb-proof and so it is unlikely to have any major issues. You can always ask for an image of the Lifetime meter reading to check how much it has been used. But in general these machines go on and on. This means that you will be able to service it yourself as you suggest.

The PM3 will store your rows internally. The log card is really if you want to move between machines and carry your log with you. You can transfer data off the machine to a PC using a USB cable. The PM3 guide in the C2 website is very helpful.

You would also have the ability to replace the PM3 with a later version PM which would allow you to connect devices via Bluetooth and also use a USB stick to record and transfer rows if you wanted to. The reason people transfer rows is so that your data is logged in your Concept2 log which is used for a lot of competitions etc.

Hope that helps. I don’t have a PM3 so others may also be able to chip in with advice.

As Jon says, the lack of a log card should not be a deal breaker because the PM records the previous workouts anyway (up to 30 I think but it's a long time since I worked without a card). The card is for moving between machines to record info and also if you have your own favourite workouts set up.

Maintenance is the occasional chain oiling and a wipe down unless (and it's rare) there's something wrong mechanically (chain/sprocket wear) - but if it's hardly been used, that is highly unlikely.

Welcome to the group!
