That’ll teach me… 100 lines punishment

If you complain about only getting 1’ rest you’ll end up with even less

This is nasty. With such short rests, even 2K pace looks aggressive. I'm assuming most will just gently paddle through most of the rests once they become pointlessly short. Tricky.

Not sure of best result. I remember on the (IIRC) 20 x 45S r 15S CTC some even stopped rowing slightly early to get the maximum benefit of the rests. Probably worth 1 stroke to get up t pace on 100 & possibly 200, but I intend to stop so can gulp in more air (breathing and driving together isn't easy).

First attempt:

Ignoring if you can the last rep (somehow I thought I'd finished, yet still had 20m to go....) it looks more like some variation around 1k pace average for me at least.

Good luck all.

That certainly won’t be my starting point Ian.

The last 100m is funny! How frustrating.

We have a different idea of funny Jon

Trying to make myself feel better by thinking it only represents 0.8s, but it's a tough sell.

Well that was fun until it wasn’t. Ian is right about pace. 2K is definitely too soft. For those who are going to try this, my pace for the last hard 2k I did was 1:55.

I think I was a bit easy on myself on the longer intervals. In reality 200m and 100m are so short you don’t really need much left in the tank.

I missed every rolling start somehow! Each of the longer session I rowed as a 2k - very hard for 4-6 strokes, taper down to target pace. The only difference was I actually eased off towards the end of each session to prolong the recovery a little.

I will only do this again if I am pushed into it.

First one today. Actually the plan was to start a bit slower, but felt rather comfortable with the 700m in a pace near 1:50. Pleased with the 10:04.1 overall result.
Really have no idea yet what approach would be best to attack this one. Maybe when I feel confident I'll have another go.

Had my only attempt at this today. Not as fast as I hoped for but happy with the result.

Not a very pleasant experience but it got done without busting anything.

Well done Ian, Jon, Fred, Tako and Colin =D> =D>

I just have a little bone to pick with you all… not one of you mentioned how horrible this one is [-X

So… went out at a couple of seconds faster than 2k pace and knew from the first interval that it was going to get messy. The toughest were 500 and 400 though even the 300 seemed far longer than it should. Despite it being short, I had to just hold on for the 200 before short-stroking the final 100

Great effort Mat!

Regarding your comment:
Telling others that this is a tough one??? Where is the fun in that ???

We want as many entries as possible, so we cannot scare people away from it.

After all, all scores count no matter the effort or result!

Cheers guys. I'd like to say it was fun, but of course I'd be lying

This one is looking particularly unpopular for some reason. There are only 101 boats in the competition so far this month. There were 159 last month. We have 16 rowers so far this month. We had 28 in last month's event. We have only one female time entered and so just the one boat afloat at the moment. All of this means the points haul for this month is looking quite low unless things change over the next week or so.

The second time strangely was not any more fun:

Plus side: hit the rolling starts properly.
I was rushing to my HIIT session, so was pleasantly surprised to see the time.
No third go mind you Image

I'm not very fast at the moment, but I am a lady, so I have floated another boat for you
(Of course, Jon, that means I haven't filled a seat in the IRL - one thing at a time...)

Thank you very much ladies for floating 3 more boats ^O^ =D> ^O^

The trouble is there is now no excuse for me not to have a go (or to be more precise after 3 DNFs actually finish!) Hopefully tomorrow will be more successful. Now that I am a lightweight (per the scales, always have been for my performance) I notice there is a real battle of the lightweights with both Jan & Peter doing this at 1:57.2. I was aiming for 1:58 and intending to start at 2:00 pace to increase the chance of finishing this time, but that is going to leave me behind them both, so will have to see how I feel tomorrow. One thing is for sure, I am not going to do this twice! With the delights of the 4 x 1k next month, hardly looking forward to the end of this one's CTC! frying pans & fires come to mind!

King's day here in Holland, so I had the time for my second attempt on this. Every rep but the last one faster then my first try, happy to finish just below 10 minutes: 9:58.8.
For now in boat 1, somehow I think that won't last.
Going on holiday for a week next saturday, so the May challenge will have to wait a bit.

Great session Fred!
Strange way to celebrate koningsdag but then again you were so quick that it left you plenty of time to join the orange crowd for the rest of the day :-)

Done. Not too bad so clearly could have squeezed more out, but another boat floated.

10.55.9 for an av pace of 1.57.1
