Here's an early heads up from The Diamonds (Over Sixties Erging Group).

For the December CTC we've chosen;

The Super Sixties Super Sprint. (A fast 500 for a final fling!)

500 metres.

Start from a Stationary Flyweel.

No other stipulations.

Hopefully that will help all teams to get a good turnout for the last month of the year😀

Finally got my rower set up. Looks like everyone gone. Maybe I'm missing something?

How do you mean Joe, “gone”?

I think he is waiting for you Steve to have your first go at this :D

We have a new ctc rower for Free Spirits by the way: Christian Hartlep (mlwt) who is (like Gaby, Ingrid and Barbara) a member of my otw rowing club. He already had his first go at a very respectable 1:52.6 =D>

Yep I think there must be something wrong with my machine. Only managed a 1:49.8. Gotta be the machine

Sounds like you’d best get that machine looked at Joe  Great result though, with the Erg playing up like that =D>

Wasn’t looking forward to this one, and at -2 degrees in our gym I did a whole 2k warm up (about 1800m longer than usual!) before launching into a fly and die, short-stroking and seemingly never-ending 500m

That's a mighty effort Mat, especially given the circumstances, well done! =D>

 , yes, that's Einstein's theory of relativity experienced on the rowing machine

You’ve got that right. At what felt like halfway through I looked up to see that I had 400m to go

Turns out there was a fault between the handle and the foot stretchers :?

I reckon that’s one of those faults that’ll ease once the Erg gets more regular use

Hadn't done a "fast" 500 for quite some time and it showed.

Hoping this is a tempting target Image

We were attempting that one at almost the same time Ian.

Someone remind me why we do this again. 0.3s faster than the IRL last year, so that was worth all of the pain then…..not! #-o

The HR data does make you think though.Just above resting to 82% HR Max in 25 seconds

You know what, I hadn't actually noticed that! Quite pleased with the rating. I realised in the last 125m that I was slipping into using arms and shoulders far too much and a side effect of focussing on the leg drive looks like the rating dropped quite a lot.

P.S. I know very well that you are not going to rise to the challenge. I haven't finished above you and Spider for the entire season ^O^

Second one today. When I entered my time I saw Peter had just rowed 500m in 1:37.2. I happened to finish in 1:37.1 Very close :fswink:

Nice improvement guys! Had a bit of an improvement myself today. Up to 1:37.9. The body starting to remember how to do this =P~

Almost forgot again!
However, the river was high this morning so 4 of us decided on an erg session instead.
Had a sneaky look at the scores ...

... so sub 1:37 was the target (to be honest, I hadn't a clue if <1:40 was possible).
First couple of hundred was on target no problem, then of course the dreaded 2nd half arrived and all things slowed (apart from my arm and shoulder speed and chain rattling).
JUST managed to hang on for 1:37.0 :P

Target today was 1:36. Started off at a 1:35 pace. Felt pretty easy for the first minute, then that darn monkey jumped on my back. Big fight with him almost hd with 120m to go but shut my eyes and sucked it up for a 1:36.7

omg, I hate sprinting... :D :D

Goal was just to see if I could do a sub 1:40; managed a 1:38.7

Checking it off, no redo... :D

btw, almost have a 5th boat afloat if we get one more female to make an attempt.

Well done getting all those boats floated, guys :!: =D> =D>

Been hit twice by fly during these last few months. Although coughing at times did 1:46.9 yesterday, quite uneventfully...

Happy new year every spirit

Did my first CTC in over a year. I had no idea how to pace it, so I just decided to try to get a steady rhythm going. I was pleasantly surprised to manage to get sub 2 - finished in 1:55.0 and sitting alongside Colin in boat VI.

Had a last minute go at this tonight (my 3rd) with the aim of beating my previous time of 1:37.2. This is how it went:

Start was a bit slow but managed to get the pace down to 1:36 after 100m and basically kept it like that for the next 400m (which surprised me to be honest).

Anyway, happy to end up in the same boat with Mat 😃

Happy new year and happy rowing in 2023 everyone :fswink:
