That’s going to be a bugger to pace.

The first one will be ok. After that, not so much methinks...

I feel somewhat intimidated by eight of these relatively short buggers that seem to demand a sprint pace.

This is going to give me the horrors!

2min - what is that - more than 500 - less than 750? But then again good practice, maybe, for a series of hiit sessions planned for October. Definitely need to press go on this earlier rather than later.

Abbr's day today. Started out with the WOD, now did a CTC, and plan to do an IRL later on as well. In the CTC finished with exactly the same number of meters as Simon A, but of course, with him being the first to reach it, just missed boat 1. In which I wouldn't have stayed very long I presume.

Struggling for motivation at the moment (yes, even more than usual). My father passed away last Sunday after moving in with us at the end of May. So, my brother left us 4 years ago, my mum last November and now my dad so there's only me left and it's left me feeling a tad mortal and evaluating life etc. I've also got my own little health scare going on so that's an additional worry... :-(
All the above off my chest, after my legs were still hating me for my rather average 4 minutes for the IRL on Thursday, I opted to try and get a score on the door for the CTC. My target was a) finish it i.e. don't quit and b) get under 2:00 splits. I managed a bit better than that at 4096m total and 1:57.1 average. There might be a few more metres on that with fresher legs but I honestly can't remember the last time I felt like my legs were "fresh".

Deepest condolences to you, Plummy. The loss of a parent is always super hard, and I'm with you - my mom has passed away already, my dad is in his mid 80's, so there's a certain inevitability of becoming the oldest living member of the family. It does make you feel mortal in ways that I would never have understood 20 years ago! It's fantastic that you're cranking out some good times in the middle of all that - I hope I can give the CTC a better run a little later on too. I think we have enough strong folks in our midst that I can't really hang with the boat 1'ers, but I'm about to be lead on boat 3, and it's only september 3!! haha.

That's a lot to take, plummy! My condolences for the loss of your Dad. And belated condolences on the loss of Mum & brother, too... It may sound trite, but the best thing you can do to honor their lives is to continue to live your own best life, whatever that may entail. I hope your health scare is something your health team is able to put behind you soon as well. I had a nagging feeling you hadn't been quite yourself the last few months, but didn't want to ask. Godspeed as you move through this, good sir!

Oh, and congrats on beating your CTC targets... :) I've yet to row it myself as I really don't like short, intense rows very much.

So sorry to hear of your news Plummy, and of your own health issues. Wishing you all the very best during what I'm sure will be difficult days, week and months ahead

Ugh! and Oof! are my thoughts on this one.

Managed a 4373/1:49.8 on this one. The first two minute rest felt like way too much. The second and so on felt not nearly enough!! :D

Best split was the 2nd at 1:46.3; Worst was the seventh at 1:52.3. None were my idea of a good time!

How does that compare to your 2K pace Ron?

Sorry, Jon, but I'm not really sure. After several years of ignoring that row, I tried to do a "real" 2K a couple of weeks ago. I was intent on holding 1:50 throughout and managed to hold it until just after 750M... :D I haven't tried again since.

Edit: Thinking a bit more about this. I did just manage a 1:49.4 for 1.1K as part of the IRL 4 Minute row this month. So, it looks feasible that maybe it was 2K-2 or 3?

That would explain why it was tough then! You basically rowed 8 x 2mons at 1k pace. Let’s just say I will be pacing it slightly less ambitiously when I eventually have a crack at this. Image

I can relate Dave, thoughts are with you.

Needed to get this done before the final busy summer month of golf ...
Target #1 - could I beat Peter (49.1), hm, probably. #2 - could I even reach boat 1 (47.7), hm, probably not.
Set off at 1:48 for 4 splits and realising I couldn't reach boat 1 I made sure I popped in ahead of Peter and gave him a decent target.
4425 @ 1:48.4

I half hearted this yesterday - got two intervals done @ 1:47.5 but then during the rest just flopped over and gave up. I felt bad about it for about 15 minutes until an announcement told me the gym was closed. I wasn’t paying attention and didn’t even have the time to do another 6 intervals. Sometimes it all just works out I guess.

Thanks Steve, that was very kind of you  :fswink: You'll understand that I couldn't leave it like that and that I had to have another go. My targets for my second attempt were

bronze: beat my prevoius score (4400m / 1:49.0)
silver: beat Steve (4425m / 1:48.5)
gold: get into FS I (4458m / 1:47.7)

This is how it went:

Half way through I knew I would equal Steve's superb row. With four reps remaining it was time to work on the golden goal. With one rep to go I was almost there, so it was down to a really fast final rep. I managed to pull a 1:44.3 pace in this one for an overall score of 4471, 71m more than my previous attempt. I'm very happy with my - certainly short lived - seat in FS I :D
