After having done quite a tough work-out decided it was time for my 2nd attempt here. Single goal: better then the first one. Rowed 1070 now, 1055 last time, so for now that's okay. Hope to reach at least 110 before the end of the month.

My goal is to try to PB all these lengths this IRL season, so I’ll have another go at the 4:00 eventually - after I shove the thumping that was my last attempt into the forgotten fogscape of the subconscious.

I will be doing my session later in the month, just trying to regain some rowing form. Will definitely be doing it. Remind me if I need to do anything other than just log the score?

Chris, you will need to register as a member of Free Spirits 2. You should be able to set your "8 on 8 team name" here -> https://indoorrowers.org/your-rower-profile

If anyone else is interested, we still have seats available in Free Spirits 2.

Good progress overall for Boat 1 given we are only half way through the month. We have 8/10 seats filled already with just Felton and Kevin to submit a time. I finished with a score matching Peter exactly with 1102 - I'm sure it won't stay like that, but can you beat my adjusted distance Peter?

By the way, we are still positioned first at the moment, but there's a long way to go to the end of the month and some really strong teams.

Boat 2 still has three ladies in it, but no distances entered as of yet.

I’ll be making an entry for boat 2 before the end of the month (once I’ve put on my big boy pants!!)

I finally strapped on a pair and got this one done today. Started at a pace I knew I could sustain and gradually increased. In the last 15” I saw the possibility of 1200m and went for it

Only one in FS2 so far to record a result so it may all
be for nothing but it was a good workout!

1.00 302 1:39.3 33
2.00 296 1:41.3 34
3.00 271 1:50.7 31

2nd try - new PB for the 4:00… I might give this one more try to see if I can close the gap to 1200. but this felt about as fast as I can go… :(

There are some great efforts here. Welcome back to the pain cave Felton, you’ll see Rob over there in the he corner giving it his all!

We have almost a full boat in FS1 - just Kevin to submit a distance. We remain in 1st place at the moment.

Mat is alone with a fantastic distance in FS2 .

Hi people just signed up to this as I need a bit of motivation. Around 10 years since I last tried this, no idea what to go for but I'm thinking along the lines of 1005m as a predictive finish and keep going or crash and burn trying anyone care to guess how long I last

just got my entry in for boat 2. Not my best effort and it was a struggle after being off the machine for a few months! Lots of rowing fitness to get back. 1075m on the board though is better than nothing

I’m torn between guessing 4 minutes and channeling my inner mr T … “Prediction?? I predict… pain.”

Ha Ha I much appreciate the 4 mins sadly the writing was on the wall around 1:30 in but just held on to halfway then after the predictive finish had settled I held that to the end. (961m)

sorry I'll get it right next time.

Achieved my goal today, which was 1100 meters. Reached 1112 today, which was painful enough to make this the last attempt for this month.
Still number 1, FS1, but previous seasons showed that there were a lot of late entry's. Well, not bad anyway, and great rowing so far I think.

I've often used the following approach when attempting the 4' with no real idea of pace:

Pluck a target pace out of thin air and convince yourself that's about right
Start off strongly at a much faster pace than you'd decided, and tell yourself "that doesn't feel too bad, maybe I'm fitter than I thought"
Quickly realise that there's no way you can sustain this for 4' and try to slow to target pace
By this time you're halfway in and have to decide to either HD, or slow down even more
Fight your way though a painful minute and a half before deciding to give absolutely everything for the last 30"

I'm not saying that's the best approach, just the one I often use

Cheers Mat yep that just about summed it up. Will probably go again but use a negative split based on the average and try to suffer a bit more in the middle bit. Good luck with the ttt, team tts are great if you are one of stronger riders but shear hell if you happen to be the slowest counting finisher.

Somehow I think you and I are very philosophically aligned.

We have now 10 people in team "Free Spirits" and six people in team "Free Spirits 2". I think we have until coming friday to decide whether we want one team or two. In the latter case two people would need to swap from "Free Spirits" to "Free Spirits 2". Any takers?
