Indoor Rowers League 2022-23

Post by JonT »

I’m pleased to say that the IRL will run again this year. Is anyone interested in forming a team? We need at least 8 and preferably 10 rowers to compete in 8 events ranging from 500m to 10k spread over September 2022 to April 2023. All events are weighted based on age and gender, so all are very welcome.

If you are interested, you need to be willing to try to complete each event if at all possible. The teams score depends on the top-8 results each month, so it’s important that you are willing to commit to row each month. We did an amazing job last year when it came to participation.

More details are here- https://indoorrowers.org/indoor-rowers-league

I am happy to register the team and remind people each month to put in a time/distance.

Post here if you want to join the team.

For those of you who are thinking about it. There is absolutely no pressure in terms of your performance, any time which helps to fill a boat makes a massive impact on the boat's score. So the important thing is that you put in a score each month. I personally find the event gives me motivation to push harder once a month and also gives me some Nonathlon points when the IRL event happens to be a Nonathlon event.

I'll join again to help with team points but more than happy to step aside for someone new (and faster) wanting to join in this time around

I'll have a go if there's room. I seem to be rowing more regularly lately than I have in the nearly 11 years that I've owned my Model D... I think retiring must have cleared away some of the obstacles to being consistent that I used to face... :)

Ideally three more rowers would be great.

Count me in. I could do with the exercise, having returned today from a holiday in Queensland.

I would like to be included please. I've been out of action for some time but keen to get back onboard. Although my speed or endurance is not what it used to be, I'm still willing!

That is now a full boat. We have previously run two boats, so if anyone wants to be on a reserve list then please post here. We would need at least 16 and preferably 20 rowers to make up two boats.

I will contact the event organisers and ask then to clear out the boat from last year so that we can all hop on-board. If possible I will try to make it so that rowers from last year remain in the boat rather than having to join it again (fingers crossed). If you have not got an account on Indoor Rowers then I would wait until we have the boat available and then you can register as part of the team at the same time as setting up an account. WARNING - the website is not the easiest to use.

Good luck all. The event starts with 4 minute row which needs to be completed and recorded on the site between September and October the 1st. As I mentioned before, there is no pressure at all in terms of performance, it is far more important to get a time in than no time at all, and the top-8 scores count towards the monthly total.

For the record - we finished 8th last year with a total of 716 out of a possible 800 points. Our best event was the 4 minute row (92.58/100 points), so no pressure at all for a strong start this season!. The weakest was the 500m in April (83.19/100 points).

Hey Jon - I'm Ron. (it's at the very bottom of my PB sig graphic)

We should form a surf shop or something. (US-centric joke. "Ron-Jon Surf Shop" is a very popular beachy shop on the eastern seaboard and especially around the Florida coast)

The guy who runs the IRL is on holiday at the moment. I have no doubt we will sort the team out soon. Meanwhile, there is nothing to stop you rowing the 4 minute event at any point in September and entering the time once we have the correct crew in the boat.

Hi all, sorry, I have been off the machine all summer and not on the forum, but will be jumping back on now. If there is still pace on the second boat I would be up for it again
