100,000 Steps
It was 2 years this weekend that I suffered my cardiac arrest and as a way to celebrate? my return to some sort of level of fitness I joined a walking friend of mine on a 100,000 step walk.
Other than very tender and wet, muddy feet I was fine although a bit stiff and sore the next day.
For the record, I completed 104,500 steps covering a distance of 77.5 km, over 16.5 hrs.
The section from 35km to 65km was very muddy and boggy, alternating with long road stretches(hard on your feet) as there are large portions of the north coast belonging to the MOD - this section was very slow going and took about 1.5-2hrs longer than it normally does in summer.
The walking bug has well and truly bitten - got another 3-day round the island walk at the end of the month so looking forward to tackling that next.

Dave, that sounds like a great plan - wonderful place to walk and get away from it all, and I can try and convert you to rowing on DF 360 at the same time - who knows, it could be a life-changing event for you

I think you will really enjoy the walking - it is very calming, and productive( on an 8 hr walk I find that I can solve most of the world's problems )
However, getting England to win the 6 Nations is a step too far

Wow, that’s some trek, Paul! I got tired just reading about it.
I’ve haven’t been on the erg for quite a while, but I am trying to do as much walking as possible. It ebbs an flows, but if I can cover 100,000 steps in a week, I figure I’ve done OK. That’s less than the amount you covered in one day.

100,000 steps a week is not bad going either.
I find walking to perfectly suit my fitness requirements and limitations as it is very much a sub-maximal effort not putting any undue strain on the CV system but doing enough to keep the metabolic rate up at a decent level.
I am finding that my limiting factor is the condition of the feet - from a muscular endurance point of view I feel I could quite happily walk 24 hrs or even 100 miles(my ultimate goal).
I would say that erging will give you more bang for your buck, so to speak, but also the increased risk of injury, which looks to be your recent experience.

Paul, huge admiration, that was terrific going although once completed, did your poor feet send out an SOS, ' Save Our Soles ' ?

Growing up, we lived on the Waterloo - Portsmouth Harbour Line and I have many happy memories of our day trips to the IOW.

All is well now - will probably go for a 40km "sprint" on Sunday before the 3 day round IOW walk starting next Friday.

Completed Day 3 of 3 yesterday on very sore feet!!
It always seem to be the feet which let me down - was struggling with them most of Days 2 and 3 but was determined to finish - for the record it was 52000 steps on day 1(38 km), 51000 steps on Day 2(37km) and 62000 steps on Day 3(43km).
There were 8 or 9 of us who did all 3 days, with another 5 or 6 doing 1 or 2 days.
Went for a swim earlier to loosen up and feel a lot better for it - next long walk will probably be a 36 hr round the island next month which I might be able to manage at a stretch

My daughterinlaw the netball fanatic swears by epsom salt soaks and magnesium balm ?? (Ps She went to Sandown high school)
My own feet and lower legs are now beginning full medical investigations but has a waiting list of months
Lose some weight whilst you wait was their best offer lol
I shall do abt 6,000 steps tmrw in yr honour but maybe a coffeebreak halfway round
