January ctc - Free Spirits to decide

Post by Grobi »

Hi all,

it seems it's our turn to decide the next ctc. With christmas coming up when probably some members spend less time on the forum I think we should start a discussion on what our idea for the January challenge is.

What are your thoughts? Continuous row or intervals to start with?

My vote would be for a ranked piece. It seems to encourage a larger participation.
I hate the fussy intervals especially with - meters etc...

4 minutes ??

good idea Peter, and I agree with Kevin to choose a ranked piece.
Personally I'd go for something a bit longer, 5k or 30 min

The 6k is a piece that no one likes or tends to do many of - and it's a longer ranking piece.

I like the idea of a „christmas calorie burner“, so a longer piece like a 5k or 30 mins. I agree with Kevin that we should go for a ranking distance/time to make it more popular.

Ranked piece please

Either 4min or 6k - Ulterior motive - a lovely lady in another State stole my 6k Aus record so it could be time to get it back :)
I don't believe I have a 4min ranking piece at all so that could be fun and a tad less painful tham a 6 k

Cheers

My vote goes to the 6k ranking distance.

I suggest we keep the discussion running until Sunday (Dec. 12th). I would then start a poll on the three most popular distances/times if that's ok for everyone.

For what its worth, I'd agree with the 6k (and hope to be able to participate by then)

However, in the spirit of the usual CTC, do we have to present it something like

"24 x 250m with 0' rest, standing start for the first rep, record the time for the full distance"

Or perhaps

250 / 500 / 1000 / 1500 / 500 / 1500 / 1000 / 500 / 250 with 0' rest, standing start for the first rep, record the time for the full distance"

(This is intended as a joke)

On a separate note - recovery going well so far. Thanks for all the good wishes

6k is a good distance. Not too short, not too long. The ctc saw this distance the last time in March '21...not a year ago. One may argue it is rowed then too often...on the other hand you have a comparison in this season to rank !

I'm only one week back in to rowing, so I'll just go with whatever, because at the moment, any distance/time hurts.

Also prefer a ranking piece, 6K also has the advantage that it's a Nonathlon distance as well, 4 minutes isn't.

I have to admit that I like the CTC for some variety from set pieces, especially ones that have already been nominated as CTC events less than a year ago. But I can see the 6K idea has a lot of support, so I will go with the wisdom of the crowd. We could be cheeky and nominate the IRL event so some of us could kill two birds with one stone, but the IRL is 1-minute in January, so that won’t work given that was the November CTC.

Excellent point

A little bit cheeky Jon on the 1 minute 😎😉

Looking like a 6k to start the year off 😳😁

It looks like 5k, 6k and 30 mins are the most popular votes so far. I'm going to start a poll on these three options and let it run until Friday. Each user has one vote, you can revote if you change your mind.

We should also start thinking about a fancy name for that ctc (if we want one). Of course that depends on the outcome of the poll, but maybe someone comes up with an idea independend from the time/distance we choose.
