December ctc - 813m, standing start
Hi everyone,
the december ctc has been confirmed:
"The Gee crew want to show that rowing is an activity for all ages. They have added up the years over seventy of their members and are asking us to row that as a distance in metres.
The challenge is 813 metres from a standing start with no other restrictions."
I recommend a proper warm up and then have a lot of fun

....though it may not feel that way at the time. Just like the 3min interval in the current CTC feels like 10min when you are doing it

Re: December ctc - 813m, standing start
First bash at this, not overly optimistic as been feeling sluggish and my asthma has been giving me problems (it doesn't like the cold damp conditions in my garage ).
Went off to hard and suffered for it.
2:50.6 1:44.9/500
Not so good but I was within 11 ranking places of Olli Zeidller for a very brief time
Hopefully my asthma will settle a bit and I can push on a bit from here.

Re: December ctc - 813m, standing start
Well done Crushy, and good luck with your next attempt! See you averaged about the same pace as in last month's challenge.
I was targeting my last month's pace, and managed to get there exactly (3:04, 1:53.2 pace). Hoping to get closer to the 3 minute mark later this month.
With Sheena's row earlier today we are now the first team with a floating boat
Good luck to everybody who tries it, it's a nice distance to row

Re: December ctc - 813m, standing start
First attempt today. The first 600m were in a 1:45 - 1:46 pace, then speeded up, finishing in 2:48.4. (Crushy, I'm sure you can go faster then me )
Due to the Holiday Challenge had been rowing longer distances at lower pace, first shorter piece since November's CTC.
Maybe another one later this month. Good luck everyone.

Nice one Crushy, we'll await Fred to accept his own challenge now
I had a Peter like mentality for my go.
Was quietly confident of 1:40 pace and made that my silver goal.
Gold would be anything under.
So very happy with a neg split 2:40.5 / 1:38.7
I'll enjoy a short lived time in seat 1 whilst waiting for the younger, stronger chaps

Nice effort Steve. It's always fun to be able to speed up at the end
Had another go today this time 22 spm and 207 df. Managed 2:52.9 1:46.3 pace. Not sure if this low rate high drag stuff will make me faster but sure makes you stronger. Next up 24 spm

Great effort any plans for day 3 my legs are still heavy from last week looking for a space in the new schedule to fit a 813 that would be worthy. The first boat is a tough one this month.

Re: December ctc - 813m, standing start
puhh...at least it is quickly over...had a go today in the morning. congrats to all finishers...every distance hurts fot its own ! And so the 813m does ! Will not do it again. But happy to have a score sub 1:35 which was the goal ! Treated it as a classical fly and die...and so it treated me

Great row Claudius Yet again the lightweight seat in Boat I is very secure
I never cease to be amazed at how low your heart rate stays during these intense short sessions.

Re: December ctc - 813m, standing start
Thank you Jon...my guess is that in the final part between 2:11 and 2:32 is a artefact...at high stroke rates even a highly accurate heartrate data via chest strap gets confused...my start was 2x 1/8 length 1x 1/4 and then stayed at 3/4 length for the whole piece...

Great work, Crushy. I've been away for a couple of days, but with a lockdown starting again today I'm sure I'll have a go at it before the end of the month. Will be difficult though I think.
Missed your later post when I wrote the first line, never mind, I'll see what I can do...

Well done to all who have had a go so far.
I eventually got around to having a go and I got confirmation of why I should avoid anaerobic activity.
After I completed the row I bent over to put the cover on and I got ZAPPED by my defibrillator - I initially thought I had been electrocuted!!
I think the combination of anaerobic exercise and the high Beta Blocker dosage designed to take pressure off my heart combined to trigger off the device.
I feel fine now but will not be doing sprints again!!!

Crikey Paul! Probably best to stay well away from the sprints, as you suggest. Take care of yourself!paulgould wrote: βFri Dec 18, 2020 5:52 pm I eventually got around to having a go and I got confirmation of why I should avoid anaerobic activity.
