I thank you all! Perhaps some of the quieter forum readers will take part in this month's challenge, as it is a ranking piece... it could be a kind of motivation

Great performance from Claudius, and some other solid 5ks there too =D> =D> =D>

I'm still mainly running these days, but trying to make myself get on the erg once or twice a week (I think its a masochistic thing!). It's been a while since I went for a tough 5k so I thought I'd just try for sub 19'. The wife came back home to find me puffing and panting away with a few hundred metres to go and watched me fall off the erg happy with 18:33

The 5k is every bit as nasty as I remember!

I posted a HR capped, very steady 21:55 row at the start of the month. My plan was to keep rowing the 5k on a number of occasions, shaving off 30 seconds or so each time as some sort of fitness returned (my SB is 20:09). I planned to aim at 21:30 yesterday, then 21:00 next week, and then try for 22:30 and a final attempt to better my legendary adversary Mr Plumb.

So much for that plan! I did a 20:51 yesterday, so nowhere near the planned row of 21:30 #-o

I need to shave a few seconds off to take a (temporary?) seat in Boat II, but I felt pretty bad at the end of the row, having backed off considerably in the final 1,500 as my HR shot up. I think you may be safe this month Mr P especially given I am still meant to be taking it easy. That was my first foray out of UT1 for weeks and I didn't like it very much. :(

Finally plucked up the courage to have a crack at this. Ended with a 18:50.8.

Actually quite pleased with my pacing as I compared the year of my recent 2k time and my 5k times around the same time. So it gave me rough idea of my level of fitness.

Sub 19, so very quickly, is excellent Pete!

No erging for me the past 2 weeks because of a bad back (no exercise at all except a couple of short walks this week).
So a gentle return yesterday.
Turned the df down to 100 and set off expecting to ave somewhere between 2:05 and 2:10
Damn and blast those competitive demons!! Not far in it was apparent that sub 20 would be easy if the back held.
So I have posted 19:46.9 and hope to be able to have another go towards the end of the month.

Decided to do a 5k today. First row this month and my physio has told me that it's OK to row provided I take it very easy and don't put any undue strain on my back.

I figured I'd be able to do somewhere around the 21 minute mark without stressing my back too much, but boy was I wrong! In order to row stress free, I needed to slow down to over 2:20 pace, so that's what I did. Finished in 23:37.4 for possibly my slowest ever 5k. Certainly the slowest I can remember doing.

I'll try to have another go in a few days if my back doesn't act up after today's session. I'm waiting for an appointment to see a specialist to see whether surgery might be advisable, so I won't be doing anything too taxing in any event.

Don't rush bud. If I knock my back out I don't even start thinking of rowing until its completely painless, let alone start!!

My daughter Jo did her 4th. row and 2nd 5k ctc today that in itself was a huge achievement as she was well and truly on the bottom of the list, her target to get off the bottom needed a 5 min+ improvement, pleased to say she absolutely smashed it.

Managed my first 800 nonathlon score with that one. For me a big achievement when I think of where I was when I started a little over a year and a half ago 😎

Finally got this done. A sub par effort but nursing a quad issue a little. Only let's me know it is still there when I really start to push. 8 months ago a sub 22 was amazing, now I sit down and know its well inside capability :) Finished with 21.30.2.

Well done to all the fantastic efforts this month.

Some great results this month (Claudius, very well done on your fantastic PB =D> ), well done everyone!

I had my first go last night. I hadn‘t been on the erg for almost four weeks (but busy on the water), so I had no real idea of how to pace this one. 2:05 maybe, or 2:03? I decided to start out at 2:03, see how it feels and then decide how fast to proceed. This is how it went:

2:03 in the beginning felt way too easy, so I decided to go around 2:01/1:59 pace for the first 3k. With 2k to go I pushed harder and then all out within the final 500m, finishing on 1:44s. Happy with a time of well below 20 minutes (sorry Steve :fswink: ), but with a more even pacing I should be able to go even a bit quicker.

well done every one, especially a big shout out and Bravo to jo ! =D> :!: , her first ctc ? And nearly i overseen this: congrats to Felton becoming a Lwt...we could open a lwt eights...i also reintegrated running due to covid (because MTB races, most if them were canceled and i thought what better time to run again...it went well...a little bit of high impact sports could be a benefit to bone density and so on...and when you are on the erg again you feel how smooth this kind of sports is to your joints !
