Irish Lightweight Scullers

Post by Paul Victory »

I know erging is banned on this forum, but I presume we're allowed to discuss the OTW rowing in the Rio Olympics.

Has anyone seen the interviews with the Irish Lightweight pair who won silver on Friday? I'm willing to offer my services as an interpreter if anyone needs it. This is the interview that took place the day before the final https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=G8LeDANQ7UE

Some classic comments. I love their answer when asked about their strategy for the final - "close the eyes and pull like dogs". I'm going to employ that strategy going forward!

We only saw the post-race interview which is also hilarious: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RndEXwu0NvA

Careful if you want to follow their strategy because you will end up with "legs like jelly". Also liked their "podium pants" remark.

Those 2 were great and I only had to listen to the post-race interview three times before I got most of it.

My brother sent along Irish commentary on a laser sailing race. Very bad language [-X (Paul, speak to your countrymen about this? ) but amusing especially at the end.

I saw that and I wasn't really expecting the punchline until about ten seconds from the end. The sad thing is that the actual commentary during the medal race where an Irish sailor (Annalise Murphy) won silver wasn't all that much better, but nowhere near as amusing!

Thanks Barbara. I hadn't seen that, but I really enjoyed it. They're so natural and down to earth.
