Re: OCD Rows
Paul -- you are right, DON'T try this. Don't even start. Although based on the techniques you already use to stay focused, it would be right up your alley. So here are 3 consecutive nights of OCD fails (Plummy, avert your eyes now) in the name of experimentation. Went for time on the Dec 9 and 11 rows, Dec 10 was a distance row. Based on what the PM was displaying during the row, splits appeared more stable on the distance row, but not true -- so I agree with your analysis Paul that it's much harder to succeed. So now my question is: can I optimize my chances by picking an optimal pace/500m? My target tonight on the Dec 11 row was 2:18.2; however, at the bottom of the first 13:00 split, I saw it flash from 2:18.2 to 2:18.1 at the last moment, so I knew I had to target that split for the remainder. I'd have to have stayed closer to the 2:18.2 however, to have avoided the two 2:18.0's. It also appears the 2:20 pace was a better choice for getting the # of meters consistent.

Re: OCD Rows
Awesome David. That makes me want to go do an OCD row. Until I look at that little 8:40.0 and it reminds me I actually want to do no such thing. Nice work.

Thought I'd plonk another one in. Another 12k - faster this time and slightly more accurate (but still away off perfect )

Re: OCD Rows
Grrrr- went for a steady one last night after my SB hour on Tuesday so OCD seemed the way to go. Nailed the SPM, nailed the split but still missed the time -grrrr.

Re: OCD Rows
Thanks guys. I've always liked the mental (maybe in more ways than one) side of rowing i.e. the aspect of overcoming the mental battles as well as the physical. I quite enjoy long OCD rows as they make the time less tedious when low heart rate and recovery are the orders of the day and concentrating on the pacing has to be pretty absolute.

Re: OCD Rows
Not that I try these every time but to show how hard these are to nail - I finally got another one last night - last one was August (sorry to those on FB who've seen it already):

Re: OCD Rows
Not an OCD row as such, just a pure coincidence. But one that will get the OCDers smiling...
In looking at my season's stats I notice that in August 17 my total monthly erg time was 1:11:11.1 (hr,min, sec etc)
(thankfully I've increased that in the past 3 months by the way)

Re: OCD Rows
Holy thread resurrection! I've started doing these again as I find it helps prevent wimping out part way through a row (as you are so distracted by the other parts of the screen rather than how far or how long there is to go). They most likely won't all be successes but I'll post the odd near miss like last night's effort...

Re: OCD Rows
So close!
I remember trying this once or twice and despite considering myself pretty good at pacing could not get anywhere near accurate.

Re: OCD Rows
Impressive! You should have dropped the HR monitor but for me that is close enough to perfection!
