Obviously not too many discerning film-goers frequenting this site
- the movie is "Anchorman - The Ron Burgundy Story"
I'll try another one then : -
"Who's the U-boat commander?"

Assuming it's a U-boat film it could be one of many...
I'll pitch in with: 1941 (but can think of 3~4 more but didn't want to just list them all)

Never assume, Plummy - it's not a U-boat film

OK then -
The "U-Boat" in question is actually a Porsche, and the field of operation is Lake Michigan!!
80's movie.

Wild guess (as I've never seen this film) Ferris Bueller's Day Off?

Reasonably well-educated guess, but wrong

Thank you Paul.

Another clue:
In my years of service I have never met an officer who inflicted punishment upon men with such incredible relish. Sickening.

More clues:
The film was based on a real life event. Think sailing ship, think chocolate bar.

No Plummy he wasn't - perhaps you are thinking of
Mr Roberts, a film about the American Navy?
This film is about a famous incident that took place aboard a ship of the Royal Navy.
I'm surprised that nobody has picked up on the chocolate bar reference - think coconuts.

I decided to scrap my earlier comment. Ian you are co close - final clue then. What unlawful incident occurred on the Bounty?

Time to call it a day on this one - it was Mutiny on The Bounty.. I do not wish to put up another title, so as Ian was the closest, then it is only fair that he has the next go.

That's very gracious - promise I wasn't trying to be silly. I had a genuine blind spot....
Anyway, to resume:

That's okay Ian - I realised that you were not being silly with your " Bounty " comment. It did make me laugh though, hence my original reply which was intended to be silly but with hindsight, might have been misinterpreted as sarcasm.

Ian, I'll come clean then and confess that it wasn't just me who laughed at your " Bounty " comment ( we laughed a lot ) but Richard as well.

Thank you Ian - thinking of an ancient advert,
Do you love someone enough to give them your last Rollo? I'll share the Bounty with Richard.
