That’s correct. Something has gone wrong. I have a sinking feeling that as the CTC folks are migrating to the new website we may see the tool go awry. I’ll have a look when I get a chance but it definitely won’t be quick. I’m very busy right now - so much for semi-retirement!

No problem, Jon. I could calculate things myself of course, but your webpage has made me lazy.
So, instead of looking up what the points should be I'll wait for you. I think the right scores are somewhat a minor problem in the world at the moment.

I'm starting to think this is something to do with it being February and the tool thinking the scores are for the Carol McNally event. I'll take a look. #-o

Into scripting sometimes as well for work, I know it can be quite confusing sometimes. And sometimes for instance a tiny typo... Good luck, Jon.

Normal service is now resumed - apologies for any inconvenience caused

For those of you who have ever written code before, you will recognise this phenomenon: I couldn't resist looking at the code when I got home yesterday evening. I had a hunch the problem was dealing with the slightly crazy way the CTC sometimes numbers events (they skip event numbers sometimes for no obvious reason and of course the code breaks because it expects some kind of logical progression). This is made more complex by McNally happening in February and "stealing" March's event number. I couldn't quite get a fix working last night and went to bed. I awoke with the answer in my head. It is amazing how often coding issues are fixed while you are asleep. The brain is an amazing thing (sometimes!).

Anyway, this is working for now and the January scores are back where they should be, instead of being inflated because the tool thought we were looking at the McNally challenge.

A lot of this will need to be rewritten when the CTC switches to their new site. Hopefully it won't be too difficult.

Back to work for me now....yes I know it's a Sunday

Great you saw the light when asleep, Jon. Thanks a lot again. I'll adjust the scores later today.
At least you've had a close look at the code again, so when the c2ctc site changes I'm sure you can fix any discrepancies quite fast.

Thank you very much Jon!
I know that feeling all too well, and always wondered whether it is due to OCD (one needs things to be in order), the love for software/logic, or just the urge to a get problems fixed.
Anyway, thanks a lot and I hope it gave you an energy boost to get the other stuff done.

I've adjusted the scores now. Strangely enough we have one free spirit less then a couple of days ago. Frans, who was new, does have a Diamond entry, not for FS anymore. Perhaps in February.

I think Frans has been having some issues with his account, that may be what has been confusing things.

EDIT - I can see Frans has rejoined the FS team with a new name: F.Vliegenberg.

Hi,
I had some problems with my account indeed. The captain of the Diamonds did not agree that I changed my account from Diamonds into Free Spirits, He wanted me to make a new account,
So I did (f.vliegenberg),

Yes Frans, changing the team unfortunately also changes the previous entries, which is a weakness in the system.
Not sure what the actual damage is if one changes all the historic entries, but as I know, your previous captain is watching this forum, so maybe he might jump in and explain, so we know for the future. Though I hope the new page won’t suffer from the same weakness.

It is common sense to change your username in the ctc when you change your team affiliation to ensure the points rowed for your old team stay with your old team. So Frans was correct in setting a new name once he joined us for the ctc.

I will wait for the McNally row to complete and then we can agree a 'factor' to be used to calculate scores. I normally aim to give the winning boat around half of the points of a typical CTC event. Watch this space for my recommendation.

Jon
The tool is awarding 50 points for the top boat this year, that is around the same as last year (56 points), so unless anyone has an objection I will leave that as the score for the event. It is probably slightly on the low side given the January event this year gave 151 points for the top boat which is above the average for last year, but at the end of the day this will be lost in the rounding. Shout if you disagree - it is a trivial thing to change if required.

Jon

P.S. While looking through the past CTC data I spotted I have 13 entries as a heavyweight in 2015. I don;t think I was actually a heavyweight at the time, it was probably more that I didn't know what I was doing when I registered. Anyway that means my running total is 114. It feels like yesterday when I started this - I can't believe this is my ninth year as a member of the FS crew.

I'll add your heavyweight rows to the total number of your rows, Jon. An impressive number btw.

The Carole McNally points have been added. CTC #100 for Joe, well done. Matthew didn't score yesterday, it has been quite a well since he wasn't on the #1 spot. Congrats to Rob for being there now ^O^

Have fun with the regular February challenge :fswink:

I've repaired this the easy way. Added the 13 HWT rows in the pre 2013 column. At least your total is correct now.

Fred,

I'm working on the new tool for the CTC. Because of the way the site has changed, it is not going to be possible to mix results from the new and old versions of the CTC site. This means that the scores for February will not be available in the tool. Could you grab then and add them into the spreadsheet before I replace the tool with the new one (when I get it finished #-o)

Having registered to attend Wrich in Prague in person I'm focused entirely on the training plan. It's a bit of a long haul and for the hubby and I, it starts to add up. I feel it warrants pretty much sole focus, so the joy of CTCs will be on hold. If I can paddle through one without upsetting the training balance then I'll put in a score. Apologies to those sitting in waiting boats, but I'll be back in full after Wrich.
Lesley, I can't find a thread anywhere, did you make it to Prague ?? [-o<

Done. New promising entry from Kay and finally Frans is on the FS list. Welcome.

Good luck in March. I'll most likely have an entry as well, though it will still be poor.
