To be fair to the chap next to me, he was in his 70's and it was his first ever race - so credit where it is due for stepping up.

I can see several issues with my technique. Some may be addressable at low rate, easy pressure but barring a serious amount of physiotherapy on my achilles/calves I think I'm stuck with a wonky leg drive (hence dipping my left side a little to compensate)
My habit of looking down and left is just that - a bad habit gained by trying desperately NOT to look at the monitor (as it never seems to move fast enough). That is one thing I will start to work on - at least looking straight over the monitor rather than to one side.
I need to hold my "hang" a fraction longer and leave engaging my back so soon
I could possibly pull the handle a fraction higher into my chest and use my lats more - but I think that was maybe a factor of using race spm as I think I normally pull higher than that, not sure.

I'd like to add my appreciation for that video.

I'd isolated that, in comparison, my stroke rate is higher and the handle position at the end of the stroke is a little higher (though this might be a function of me being 5'7"). I may be brave and post my own....

Thanks Peter, as I want to make rowing somewhat a daily routine, I think this is crucial to avoid injuries and to keep enjoying it!
Grobi wrote: I looked into the darkhorserowing website and have to admit I'm not overly excited by it. ....
I think that's hugely overprized!
Yes, I agree when it comes to getting material that is free on the web; however, when looking at the possibility to get regular Skype calls and a review of my technique I have not seen any real alternative yet. But for that option one needs to have a 250$ per month

I guess I have to find a way to film myself and share the video with those that feel qualified to review it (please send me a PM if you read this and feel like you could and would like to help). Or maybe have a Skype/FaceTime session or so.

And as you said, latest at Madchester I can get good input  and as I don't think my technique is horrible, I should be able to wait.
Grobi wrote: Or you look at the video Dave posted on the EIRC 2017 thread. It's a perfect display of how to row (Dave, erg #10) and of how NOT to row (erg #9):
Actually, I already did as soon as he shared it. Had similar observations. Plummy, thanks for the explanation why you were looking to the left. I already wondered whether you were switching between big screen and PM, while having water/dirt on the glasses, forcing you to look left :D

So far I have been using the great Youtube videos from Concept2. They really helped, but it is one thing to know it, another one to do it

Thanks for all the input. I will definitely have a look at the Pete Plan, and investigate how to share a video in a more private way.

Looking forward to Madchester!

Hi, i just wanted to introduce myself, was looking for the "place to introduce myself" topic but couldn't seem to find it so hopefully it's ok to post here. I'm 42 years young, gave up smoking about 2 yrs ago now and have since ballooned into a 5ft 7", 105kg orb so 4 weeks ago I whipped the drying clothes off the old roger black rower from argos and set about shedding some weight. The rowing part I enjoyed, the rower I hated and so I investigated the concept2 and have never looked back, that mixed in with the logbook and challenges it has since become a bit of a weird obsession and I have since shed 7.5kgs. Still a long way to go but i'm up for the challenge. I've already ranked some workouts to give me a baseline, the latest being 5000m in 22:11.6 which I can now manage before doing 10x500m intervals that near kill me. Why i'm enjoying this, I really don't know...

Hello Kevboab!

Welcome!

You have made some great progress already. Congratulations! =D> =D> =D>

I have no idea why any of us like this... but it sure does grow on you!

Look around. Explore. And please let us know if you have any questions!

By the way, once you logon you will see a board called The Sanctuary (This board is only visible once you have logged on). Inside is a thread called About Me - A Place to Introduce Yourself. Feel free to post more information about yourself, if you want to. But this is fine, also.

Cheers, :P

Just to introduce myself: I am a 53 year old rower (mainly sculling in a 4*). I used to row and ergo quite a lot in the past – to prepare for rowing the Elfstedentocht (11 cities marathon – a 24hr marathon in the Netherlands). Shortly after, I changed jobs and my ergo was getting dusty and rusty. However, recently I decided that I need to get back into shape again – traveling around the world in airplanes isn’t good for your stamina – and increased the frequency and meters rowing on the ergometer.

This week I passed the 12MM mark (actually – landed spot on) and wanted to show that on the Lifetime Millionaires board. With help of David Plumb this is now visible… and he kindly requested me to announce myself :fswink:

Hello, I'm new to the Team!

I came back to rowing with an Waterrower in 2010, rowed for C2TweetCrew since 2012, back on the water around the same time. Switched to a C2 at home in 2015.
Current goal: stabilising my weight at 104kg and preparing for the TdE in July.

regards
Ralf

Welcome Ralf - I've similarly transitioned from the Waterrower to C2, though with less conviction than you (still 50:50 ish in terms of pieces).

Thanks Ian and David!

I still think that the Waterrower is a good Machine, but the better comparability of the results makes me use the C2.

Ralf

Somehow my PB Sig picture isn't showing, do I have to adjust my Sig for it?

Hi!
Short introduction: I'm 41 years old (wife and three daughters) living in the town Östersund in the northen part of Sweden. I do alot of running and mountain hiking during the summer and telemark skiing in the winter.
Last year we moved to a bigger house and I got myself a "mancave" in the basement. After having equipped it with the most essential things, like a projector, xbox, and a beer fridge I fellt something was missing. My wife had done some rowing in the gym before and she gave me the idea of getting a rower. I've start to read alot and decided to try and find I used Concept 2. Now the day has finaly come or rather tomorrow the day will come...
Tomorrow I will drive 720km (back-to back) to pick upp a 2016 Model D PM5.
Hopefully I will start to contribute with meters soon..

Welcome Loranga! I see (via the Sanctuary) that you'll be playing Led Zep while you erg.

I have to caution you on your setup. In the timeless duel between the erg and a nearby beer fridge... well, ok, I'll let you determine who will win out. 8)

But to quote my husband "there's no cardioing after beer"

Cheers ! Glad to have you here.

Welcome Loranga!

It's a bit of a gamble to buy a C2 without knowing you actually like the activity of indoor rowing.
But I see you have read enough about the sport to pick to best team, so I'm sure it will work out for you.

Hi all, I joined the forum a few months ago, and kept rowing during this time. In fact I'm enjoying rowing more than I expected initially, and today I received my new Model D (wasn't using anything this expensive) :-D
This thing is a real beauty and a total pleasure to use.
Just wanted to say hello again :-)
