Well, with all this help, I feel obligated to name the tune (I think [-o< ).

Hell's Bells.

(I had a Geology professor who always would say, when someone did not remember something that he thought they should have, "hell's bells, man!".

I had my first class with him in 1965, and the last about 1973. He was one of the reasons I became a geologist, and can still spell his name correctly - Dr. Somdev Bhattacharji.

Back to our regularly scheduled thread.

Even less sure than usual that someone will know this, but, as a hint if needed, I will explain why I want to post it.

"Picking up the pieces of my sweet shattered dream
I wonder how the old folks are tonight?
Her name was Ann
And I'll be damned if I recall her face
She left me not knowing what to do"

As alluded to above, I really wanted to post a song by this Canadian singer/songwriter, since he died at the beginning of May. We have had several of his songs in the past on this thread, which limited me to perhaps lesser-know ones.

I can't think of more clues, and more lyrics would not help much, so I will wait until Wednesday and then post a hopefully [-o< easier one.

Peter, I'm wondering if this could be Gordon Lightfoot, as I read somewhere that he had died recently? I only know ' If you could read my mind ', which obviously is not the right answer.

Yes Jill, you are correct about both Gordon Lightfoot dying and that it is not If you could read my mind.

So far, however, you are leading, and may get the next choice!

It does not look like anyone is going to name Carefree Highway, so Jill, as the closest artist namer, can choose the next tune.

Thank you Peter - If you could read my mind is on my list of timeless music, along with Wichita Lineman.

I don't know if this is though.😬

Looking like a true survivor

Why do I do this ??? ](*,) :^o

I immediately thought I heard I'm Still Standing in your lyrics, and I thought I heard Billy Joel singing them, but I guess the song is actually by Elton John.

To continue my pedantic discourse, while the plains of the US and those of Canada are quite similar, Wichita Lineman was sung by Glen Campbell and was written by Jimmy Webb. I do not know if Gordon Lightfoot liked the song. 8)

Well done Peter, you are correct.πŸ‘πŸΌ I have Wichita Lineman on one of my rowing iPod lists and I am now going to add If you could read my mind.

Over to you.

Maybe I am confusing people by choosing a song several decades later than my usual?

"And I'll turn right back around
Said I don't want to leave you lonely
You got to make me change my mind"

I know I've heard those lines Peter, especially the first two ... now if I could only place the song ...

Wolfie, I hope you can remember soon!

I would give you one good clue, if I could think of one. 8)

Maybe some more lyrics will help someone.

"This youthful heart can love you
Yes and give you what you need
I said this youthful heart can love you
Oh and give you what you need
But I'm too old to go chasin' you around
Wastin' my precious energy"

A no from Wolfie and no other responses. It looks like no one will get this one.

It is not just my choices; participation is low, and we get a few posts in a row and then not much for a while.

Maybe I should just give up and leave the thread.

I really do not want to, so please give me one reason to stay here and I'll turn right back around.

Is that a cryptic clue to the song? Ah, sod it - I Googled the lyrics - it is...

I know the artist through their one major hit (in the UK as far as I know) but not this song at all. That said - it's a really nice song!

Did likewise. Never heard that particular song before. Or, if I did, I don’t remember hearing it.

I did not think it was so cryptic.

However, no one has been able to name the tune without googling it. :(

So, let's try something else that should be known to everyone, even if used before:

"Desmond has a barrow in the marketplace
Molly is the singer in a band"

Oh, by the way, the previous song was Give Me One Reason.

That's the song.

I thought it was Beatles first (and McCartney written) and covered by Marmalade.

I'm thinking either Angelo by Brotherhood of Man - or - more possibly C'Mon Speedy Gonzales (no idea who by) but I could be miles off ....
