I know I know this. What it actually is is a bit harder.

How about Sugar Shack?

On further thought, I don't think so, but do not have anything better now.

Peter, I am surprised that you didn't know this one because quite a while back, when I put up Ricky Don't Lose That Number, you knew it straight away. :)

Carole, how about Reeling in The Years? Steely Dan of course and perhaps some calorie free, chocolate money for Peter. :)

One of the first albums I bought. The things you think are useless I can’t understand.

Thank you Carole. :) Too many mentions of your " misspent youth "... but not enough detail. :fswink:

Paul, I have one of their albums too and it's safely packed away in the loft. I cannot remember the title though.

This is from one of the verses of quite a long but ( possibly ) well known song. If there are no takers, then I will post part of the ( hopefully ) recognisable chorus. At the time, the meaning of the song, caused quite a bit of head scratching. :-k Mmm ...

And after all the loves of my life
After all the loves of my life
You'll still be the one

The song was first recorded in 1968 by an Irish actor and singer.

This is part of the refrain, with the first line missing because it contains the song title.

All the sweet, green icing flowing down
Someone left the cake out in the rain
I don't think that I can take it
' Cause it took so long to bake it
And I'll never have that recipe again, oh no

Peter, not only is the song title correct but also the spelling. =D> :) Over to you.

I have just read that General Douglas MacArthur, accepted the formal surrender of Japan, aboard USS Missouri, on September 2nd, 1945. As my late father who was in the Royal Artillery, spent three and a half years in various Japanese prisoner of war camps, then General MacArthur, on behalf of my dad, I salute you.

Wow Jill. Your father was captured before the US entered the War. Maybe that was the real reason?

Back on the tune track:

"Birds flying high
You know how I feel"

Paul, I am feeling good that you named that tune!

When we heard the Michael Bublé version last week, Ann said "they will be surprised that you know modern songs". Well, the Bublé was from 2005, which for me qualifies as ultra-modern. However, the song was actually written in 1964 for the show The Roar of the Greasepaint – The Smell of the Crowd. The Nina Simone version dates from 1965, but not released as a single until 1994 in the UK. (Thank you Wikipedia.)

While I enjoy quite a bit of stuff post 2000 none of it was a commercial success either side of the Atlantic so I don’t post it on here.
Something late 70’s now:

That's the wonderful "Parisian Walkways".

Totally agree. I would have got it from the second line, but was too late. I think I know your one, but can't quite place it (yet).

What keeps coming to mind is Pearl's a Singer by Elkie Brooks, but I know that's not it. But I think the "feel" of your song is similar.

Hm, not sure about that Paul.
Here’s what should be a give away line from the chorus…

“I………, ain’t got nobody…”
