It is!

Apparently, as I learned today, it was originally recorded by The Kingston Trio. Frank heard their version and wanted to record it.

Ron, on first reading that did not sound familiar. This morning, I realized that it was as sneaky as anything I have posted! =D>

Is this harder than I thought? Maybe get the cadence by separating that into three lines:

It ain't wise to need someone

as much as I depended on

yoooouu.

I certainly do not want to change this thread into a fools' game, nothing but a fools' game.

I'd say "dejá vu all over again", but I already said that before! ](*,)

The song was originally recorded in 1977, but with dozens of covers, the latest in 2021.

I thought a Welsh singer and a song at or near the top of most charts would be easier. #-o

More lyrics, in a futile attempt to jog someone's memory.

"It's a fool's game
Nothing but a fools game
Standing in the cold rain
Feeling like a clown
...
Love him 'til your arms break
Then he lets you down
It ain't right with love to share
When you find he doesn't care for you"

Paul, I am not sure if you were waiting for someone over here to respond, or if you thought the song was from here, but you are correct.

Next time, please go with your first thought and respond sooner to reduce my anxiety! 8-[

Originally released in 1969 but only as a single in 1974 - apparently 212 known recorded versions of this song exist.

Thanks Paul Not one of my karaoke repertoire, but I recognised it instantly. Just hadn't logged on in a while.

My recent songs have tended to stump people, so I'm going to go for one I heard on the radio today. But that does not mean that it's a recent song!

Thanks Paul V.

Paul G. has told us that when he was growing up in South Africa, his access to music was limited by the government. This one should have been available; perhaps a bit too early!

I remember this song from Songs of the African Veld by Marais and Miranda in the 1950s. Apparently (Wikipedia), the folk song is much older and of English origin.

So, the net may be wider than just Paul Gould. In a probably futile attempt, [-o< , here are more lyrics for your enjoyment.

"The old grey goose is dead
the one she's been saving
to make a feather bed.
She died in the morning
standing on her head."
