My only other guess would be The Foo Fighters - but can only think of a couple of songs - Monkey Wrench, Learning to Fly

Song is "Times Like These"
The clues refer to the sad death of the drummer recently
And the surprise guest appearance of Dave Grohl with Sir Paul McCartney at this yrs Glastonbury seen on the tv
Ive never been in person, Im not good in crowds lol

Darn - just got it as I re-read the clue. Jill has it right - C W McCall - Convoy (I hate to admit but I own a copy of that - inherited from my dad as he was a trucker!)
