Re: Name that tune
The only song I can think of that mentions Harry Truman was We Didn’t Start The Fire by Billy Joel.
But I’m pretty sure the song didn’t include anything about the price of a Coke and burger!

Re: Name that tune
Sorry Paul, the song mentions Harry Truman but no mention of Doris Day, Red China or Johnny Ray
.
The song is from the 80's though - think of a genre popular around Nashville and an artist sadly no longer with us.

Re: Name that tune
The only country music singer that I can think of who died recently is Loretta Lynn. Although both Olivia Newton-John and Jerry Lee Lewis also recorded some country music songs. But I can’t think of anything recorded by any of them that includes your lyrics.
If it’s someone who died years ago, it widens the field significantly. It could be someone like Johnny Cash, although it doesn’t sound like the type of lyrics I associate with him.

Re: Name that tune
Yes Paul, it is indeed Johnny Cash, and the song is a sort of tribute to another C&W star(big clue).

Was it a tribute to his wife June Carter by any chance?

Re: Name that tune
I gave up and decided to google “Johnny Cash songs”. A list of 30 songs came up, but none of them seem likely candidates.paulgould wrote: ↑Sat Dec 24, 2022 11:27 pmNo, a fellow male C&W star.Paul Victory wrote: ↑Fri Dec 23, 2022 1:32 pmWas it a tribute to his wife June Carter by any chance?
As I seem to be the only person guessing, I think another clue or perhaps a different song is called for.

OK then - it is The Night Hank Williams Came To Town - I’ll put up another “easier” one then -
“Trying to get away into the night” - The most popular version in the 80s

Re: Name that tune
Been away for a few days so apologies for the lack of clues...
Song is from the late 70's
UK band - VERY well known
One of their lesser well known hits and a little odd in its premise. Didn't chart (I've just spotted) in the USA so apologies to the west pondlians
Another lyric clue - it has an "outro" as much as an "intro" using the words:
"Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday
Friday, Sunday, Monday, Tuesday
Wednesday, Thursday, Friday, Sunday
Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday"...etc

Re: Name that tune
Off the mark I'm afraid Peter and Ann.
A more complete "pre-chorus":
Don't be afraid
Just knock on the door
Well, he just stood there
Mumblin' and fumblin'
Then a voice from above

Re: Name that tune
OK - I'm going to kill this one. It was The Diary of Horace Wimp by ELO.
I heard this "classic" on the radio just now so have put the opening lines up.
On a morning from a Bogart movie
In a country where they turn back time
This charted all over the world - but not highly in the UK

Sorry Peter - had a heck of a head cold/virus thingy for a couple of weeks that has kept me running at very a low ebb and Mrs P's father died last week - so been a bit pre-occupied.
I'll open the door to anyone else wanting to post something up...
