Paul, again I think I have a reasonable but incorrect guess. Your second line makes me think of Still the Same.

Pretty sure that's Candle in the Wind - and yes, in retrospect, it should have been picked up straight away

Not Still the Same , I’m afraid.

That’s not a song I’m familiar with. So I looked it up and I can see why you thought it might be a fit.

Sorry plummy. I somehow missed seeing your post. I think it must have arrived during the time I spent looking up Peter’s guess and I didn’t notice that there had been another post when I responded to him.

You are, of course, correct. Over to you.

Just heard this and couldn't find this song in a quick search:

Should I get a set of white wall tires?
Are you gonna cruise the miracle mile?

Actually recognised that one - being a big Billy Joel fan. Saw him play in Croke Park many moons ago and Piano Man is one of my go to karaoke songs.

Paul, you have to get up pretty early in the afternoon to beat me!

I did not see this one used before:

" 'bout your plan to make me blue"

Rather than posting a small selection now and then adding more, here is the entire first verse.

"Ooh, bet you're wonderin' how I knew
'Bout your plan to make me blue
With some other guy that you knew before
Between the two of us guys
You know I loved you more
It took me by surprise, I must say
When I found out yesterday"

Ok, I think I know this one. It’s I Heard it Through the Grapevine, which I think was by Marvin Gaye.

Here’s another blast from the past.

I'm not doing very well with my song choices. Here's the next few lines.

I remember the back streets of Naples
Two children begging in rags
Both touched with a burning ambition
To shake off their lowly-born tags

Appearing regularly (and watched each time because it's brilliant) is a covering of this song:

And we will live together
Until the twelfth of never
Our voices will ring forever, as one

Time for a clue obviously - here's the first line:

Every man has a place, in his heart there's a space

Well done Wolfie - correctamundo.

The cover of the song I alluded to was from a band called Leonid and Friends (I'd never heard of them prior to them popping up on my TikTok feed)

Having thought of two songs that have already been used, here's my third choice ...

"Run and tell all of the angels
This could take all night.."

I think that might be right (now I know the song and can add the words to it). Wolfie will confirm I'm sure.
