Hi I'm Andrea from Bolton just thought I'd say hi 👋👋
Im new to all this so definately learning the ropes!!
I first came across indoor rowing earlier this summer when I first got on a rower to do a challenge at the gym and won. I love running and weight lifting so thought this would provide another element to my training and fitness!! So far it's definately proving a challenge...one im enjoying though!!
Thanks to David Plumb for helping me navigate my way round and helping me with last month's challenge!!
Looking forward to being part of the team!!

Welcome Andrea and thank you for revealing the identity of the new superpower lady in Boat 1 CTC last month.

There's a lot of history here and indoor rowing is a bigger sport than you might imagine with many challenges (individual or team) but take your time to look around and if you have any questions, feel free to ask.

Hi everyone, Matt from Ross-on-Wye here.

I'm a web software developer and systems administrator and haven't generally had a lot of exercise in my life for probably at least the last 12-15 years. Many years ago, I was a member of the local gym and went religiously 2 - 3 times a week. Mostly my routine was light weights and cardio, and I had a particular dislike of the rowing machine. Looking back, I can see that I was doing it completely wrong - arms and back only - no wonder I hated it!!

This summer I joined the Ross rowing club - this was my first experience rowing and I've had an absolute blast. I was part of the winning 4x crew in the Upton beginners regatta and competed in a double in the Monmouth head. Although I learned some decent erg technique, I didn't exactly fall in love with the ergo until last month, when I managed to get hold of a Model C (the better for winter training) and set up a pain cave in the garage at home. I've since discovered the C2 Logbook, RowPro and Free Spirits. After reading the FS forum, and particularly the really friendly and encouraging "Beginners" thread, I was inspired to join.

So here I am. Hi! :-)

Welcome Matt. Good luck on your rowing journey.
As a relatively new member of Warwick, I'm sure we will bump in to each other at a regatta on the Avon or Severn at some stage!
Cheers, Wolfie

Welcome to the club Matt. Say hello to Paul Symonds for me. He’s a member of the club, your local councillor and a friend of mine from a long way back.

Stumbled across this and thought I might up date it a little (from way back in Nov '06).......

6' 1", about 17 & a half stone bouncing around the early 17 nows, so a slight improvement!! , 36yrs turned 50 in January

Married (just over 10 yrs just over 24 yrs now (she deserves a medal!! ) 3 kids, 2 girls, 8 23 and 9 22 and 'the boy' who has recently turned 5 19

I live in Hertfordshire still do

Started rowing in 2000 when I worked for a large phamacuetical company at there gym. Loved it. Completed the 2001 Red Nose 1,000,000 metres. Then changed jobs to work for a friend as a Audio Visual Tech Now back with the large Pharmaceutical company . First couple of years was up and down the country a lot, no exercise and loads on motorway service food saw me 'blossum' to just over 20 stone.

Brought my C2 in March, got an email from Michele telling me about Free Spirits. Love it!!

Well and truely addicted.

Since March I have made a point of not changing my diet still haven't but just exercising a lot more hmmmm . There is no point in kidding myself - Have always / Am / and will always be a fat-boy yep!! . I love good food and good beer and good Barcardi Still do, although 'Kraken' is catching up!! and good chocolate etc etc.

So I am never going to be thin (belly is all brought and paid for - no HP on that puppy!) but as long as I can be healthly and kick a ball round with my boy I am well happy.

My biggest challenger on the metre board is myself. Always setting myself challenges to do. Having to get to 3 million (life time) metres before my holiday which led into getting to 2 million season metres before my holiday. Then Mr Sims done the September Ends challenge. Then I see that 4 million (life time) metres is getting close so I have set out to complete that before the end of the year which again will incorporate reaching 3 million (season) metres as well. Then there is my own weekly / monthly challenges - The list goes on and on!!!!

...and I really want Free spirits to get to the moon. What an achievement.

We now have a dog (an incredibly daft Chocolate Labrador named 'Esme') so lots of dog walking over the last 9+ years. Still in the same house and now rowing in my 4th location within that house! I'd like to say I've matured over the last 14 years but that would be as complete and utter lie, if anything I've got worse. The problem is my mind actually going he wrong way to my body - ie, getting younger and my body is struggling to keep up!!

Regards
Pete

Freddie Hancock

19 years old, 189cm, LWT. I live in Pembrokeshire in Wales, and I’ve trained on the rowing machine seriously since January 2020, having previously been an internationally capped inline roller hockey player for Wales. Within the realm of indoor rowing, I have one World record (LM 19-29yo 1’ - 389m) and two British records: the aforementioned 1’ record + the LM 19-29yo 1k - 2:56.6. My 1k record also happens to make me the first British LM to go sub 3 minutes, although I am fully aware that most/if not all current or former GB LM could go sub 3 if they so desired, but you can only beat the records that are there!

I competed in my first indoor rowing event (virtually) on 27th March, coming 1st in the Open Men’s 2k with the fastest time of the day: 6:22.6, over 100 people entered that specific event of the competition.

Hi, I'm Jayne, currently residing near Bristol, UK.
I started this madness around 2013 to lose weight, but despite getting reasonably ok at erging, the pounds remain :-(
Had a few spells away due to moving around the country, health issues and that virus closing everything, but our mini home gym mysteriously acquired a shiny new erg last night, so it would be rude not to row the living daylights out of it :-) A long way to go to get back to my 2016/17 levels though.
