Avoid Hayes and Jarvis travel company...but not Whisky
You regular users of the forum will ahve noticed that I have mentioned a special holiday that I booked for me and my family to celebrate a special birthday.
Well, today I was advised by Hayes and Jarvis that this holiday is in jeopardy because, unbelievably, some MUPPET in their company missed a ticketing deadline with the airline!
So, having booked this 6 months ago and paid for it 2 months ago, I now find that we can either miss a day's work, take the kids out of school for a day, spend and extra 8 hours travelling with the prospect of 3 hours in Dubai between midnight and 3am OR as a "special concession" get a full refund!
ANGRY DOES NOT BEGIN TO EXPLAIN HOW I FEEL.
So if you plan a holiday DON'T USE THIS BUNCH.
They will be hearing from my lawyers very soon. Given what I do for a living I know some very persuasive solicitors, the type with whom you shake hands and then count your fingers.

Well, I started with a Balvennie (lovely honey and clover tastes) and then moved to Laphoraig.
Finished, (I think) with Dalwhinnie but things were a little vague by then.
Still bed at 1am, tipsy, up at 6am meeting with our head of VAT at 8:30 and then with head hunters from 10 to noon. Then back to the office.
Starting to feel the effects now and a row when I get home is looking more and more a distant prospect.

Surprised you could taste the Dalwhinnie (mild, pure and from the highest distillery in Scotalnd) after Laphroaig (good, salty/peaty and robust- good Islay malt)
Me, I'm a fan of Cragganmore, but also have some of the Classic Malts double distilled range (The Talisker is amazing - nowhere near as brutal as the standard 10yo, and the Cragganmore is sublime)
Sounds like we may have to go whisky tasting at the next meet, Graham. If you're recovered your palet by then
Hope the head is recovering.
Once did 24 whiskies in one night for a college bar crawl (well run). One of the only hangovers I've ever had. Mind you, they were yukky cheap blends rather than the good stuff.

What a nightmare. You have my sympathies. At least you have recourse. My most famous holiday cockup was where the agent booked me a calendar month before I wanted to go, and I turned up at the airport 31 days late without checking the tickets....

Mike, you're right about the Dalwhinnie. Think it might have been the Ardbeg at the end. certainly had a mouth like somebody had poured petrol in it.
Sorted the hols problem as best I can. No a perfect solution but as soon as I have tickets in hand I shall make my thoughts known to the useless bunch of w4^kers.
Did nothing from Wednesday to today when I managed a few mtrs.
Definitely into the whisky though. Any samples much appreciated.
Not really any other spirits though. I did once get rather tipsy in Peach Schnapps but that was a long time ago and I'm much more mature now.

don't profess to know my arse from my elbow on whisky but, being a jock myself, i thought i should pass on the benefits on my slim experience, at weberg's suggestion.
Glenlivet and Glenmorangie are both lovely, easy to drink Speyside malts. Likewise Aberlour.
Dalwhinnie is a wee bit different. Bit softer. Tomatin (just up the road from Dalwhinnie) is gorgeous too. Their blended whisky - BIG T is superb.
As it happens i have a bottle of glenlivet and aberlour in the boot of the car right now. 15 quid each in somerfield. it would have been foolish to walk past a deal like that.
