I will take your advice Jill to heart
Some days it is best not to start
Doing anything tough
When the going gets rough
Thus avoiding things falling apart

Wise words Paul. =D> :)

Although judging by some of your comments on the Irish Lightweight Scullers' Thread, they might not last for long.

Man's Best Friend ... Sometimes ...

Unhitching the team from their sled
Paul offered to pull them instead
The dogs barked ... But ... But ...
You have your eyes shut ...
Then turning their tails they all fled

Brillant!

I didn't get to row at all yesterday (or Saturday for that matter), but will probably keep my eyes open when I head out later (assuming I can summon up the energy to do so in this heat).

That image is etched in my mind
Of me, with a sled right behind
Even with my best shot
I'd not move it a lot
So to stay put I would be resigned

Paul, I'm outclassed.

At the weekend I was reading all about the O'Donovan brothers and how their club was far from upmarket - the roof leaked and the boys had to train on 4 rusty rowing machines and use weights that had been homemade for them by a family friend.

Two young lads from the Emerald Isle
Won Silver and then made us smile
Despite limited means
And old rowing machines
Paul and Gary, you did it with style

Excellent, Jill! I think the expression that would be used in Ireland to describe the brothers is "legends". Hopefully they'll remain on the scene for years to come and will retain their charming lack of sophistication and not allow all the attention to go to their heads.

The Olympics are over at last
And some were exceedingly fast
While others were slow
And had nowhere to go
As the medalists went steaming past

I'm outclassed again Paul. =D>

Mammy O'Donovan will make sure that her sons stay grounded.

This month's CTC generated plenty of comments - made to sound complicated, when in fact it wasn't. I'm not on the Fcbk page, so didn't see those posts. However, at first, the ones on the C2 thread had me scratching my head. This is very tongue in cheek.

Maths ... As Easy As ABC .... :fswink:

Calculating this month's CTC
Oh my ... I'm confused ... Oh dear me
But wait ... The position
Needs simple addition
Relief. How hard can that be?

As always, you've cut to the chase
And explained how to work out the pace
It isn't that hard
Unless overpowered
By the need to put all into place

I'm sure most of us had a teacher at school who we disliked or were afraid of.

My maths teacher was called Mr Smith - 6' 4" tall, ex-army, loud of voice and short of temper, which wasn't an ideal combination, when like me, maths wasn't your strongest subject.

One lesson, after writing an algebra problem on the blackboard, he looked around the class for a suitable victim ... A quiet boy called Gary Nunn, who was ordered to come up to the front and explain the problem to the rest of the class.

When Mr Smith shouted, " Well boy! What are you waiting for!? " poor Gary fainted.

This is called Ode To Odious Mr Smith. ( Poetic licence used here, as I know this isn't an ode ).

Algebra. Calculus. Trigonometry
Logarithms. Equations. Geometry
Logic and fractions
Additions. Subtractions
Will always strike fear into me :(

Some teachers can be hard to please
They never put students at ease
Which is quite a shame
And they must take the blame
When their best students only get Bs

I can't match Jill and Paul's prolific output which has been a pleasure to read. Well done to you both!
Here's my usual monthly contribution:

There once was a plumber named Sid
Who worked wonders for just a few quid
There was only one snag:
He would leave his tool bag
In a place where you'd slip......and you did!

Thanks Philip. We didn't mean to hijack your thread, but it gets a bit additive after a while.

Thank you Philip - and thank you for your very amusing monthly contribution.

I'm wondering if it's based on past experience?
Paul Victory wrote:Thanks Philip. We didn't mean to hijack your thread, but it gets a bit additive after a while.
No we didn't Philip and please don't forget that since this thread was started, your excellent output have been far more prolific than ours. =D>

For my part Philip, it was meant to be a cunning plan: if Paul was kept busy being creative, that would prevent him from being kept busy, having an attack of what he calls ' The Munchies ' ... Unfortunately, after reading his posts on the Weight Loss thread, my strategy seems to have backfired. #-o

Jill, I'm really impressed that you care
About my weight loss, though it's fair
To say I've been told
That I tend to be bold
When there's food that I don't want to share

:-k Mmmm ... Hang on ... I'm not supposed to be laughing ... #-o :^o  :fswink:

Paul, there is a serious side to all of this - at the beginning of 2014, your weight was 108.3k and by the end of the year it was down to 96.6k. A great deal of hard work and effort went into achieving that ... =D>

Thanks Jill. I'm not quite sure how I'm going to get back on track, but I know that I've reached the top of a very slippery slope and I need to get off it before I just become totally disheartened and throw my hat at it.

On holidays is probably not the ideal location for practicing self denial, but I am trying not to go too overboard and I plan to start on a new strict regime when I get back home and stick to it until I get back out off the red zone.

Good intentions are not quite enough
When the going's exceptionally tough
But I shall persevere
And will get there, no fear
And once more be exceedingly buff!

Mustn't let this thread start turning into a rhyming Weight Loss one. My fault entirely. [-X

Cosying Up To Darth Vader ...

Looking for ways to keep fit?
Then erging can help quite a bit*

Jill says that I need a new hat
And I can't disagree with that
A new leaf's not enough
If I went to get buff
And get rid of my excessive fat

So it's back to the erg I shall go
And with great resolve I will row
And I'll try not to stop
Till my weight starts to drop
And a 6 pack at last starts to show!*

* OK, a 6 pack is somewhat overoptimistic - perhaps a 2 pack?

An expensive ' Victory ' for young Mr Victory. :fswink:

Thanks Barbara.

"May the force be with you" said Jill
And, in truth, that gave me quite a thrill

But the memory remains with me still

Thank you Barbara - you have many talents my dear, wit and a great sense of humour being two of them. :)

Paul and Philip. =D> =D> :)

Philip, last month it was a plumber and this month it's an electrician. I can’t help wondering if you might have workmen in your house at the moment?

Paul, you obviously enjoyed yourself at the wedding - missed opportunities to chat up the bridesmaids and your confession about being a bad dancer made me laugh.

A warning to bridesmaids. Beware!
If dancing with Paul, then take care
As you ‘ groove ‘ to the beat
Watch out for your feet

I don't know if I mentioned this previously, but I have another wedding coming up in 11 days time. So I have a chance to make up for missed opportunities.

Young ladies, you're really in luck
For a know a young (?) man of such pluck
That he'll give you a whirl
You lucky young girl
And he'll dance like a 20 ton truck! #-o
