Dave, Well done on the 500m, that's an impressive Nonathlon score. And hope you're feeling better soon.

I had a go at the 5k tonight and it being my first 5k for the season it was an SB by default. Nevertheless I‘d like to post it here because I‘m very happy with the result:

Based on my recent mile and 6344m the pace predictor promised a 18:55.5, it seems it was spot on! :D

For the first 2k I kept my powder dry, then went a bit quicker in the third k. The fourth k was the toughest one (it almost always is for me in a hard 5k). With less than 1k to go it was time to open the hurt box. It was quite a big box I can tell you. I was working my way down to a 1:54 split and reached that with about 400m to go. From there on it was all in and I‘m very pleased to have gone sub 19, especially one day after a hard 6344m for the IRL.

That's brilliant my friend =D> =D>
I had a go on Thu with my first 5k of the season. Wanted <19min and was more than happy with a flat paced 18:59.0 @ 1:54.9
So it seems I have the edge in the sprinting/intervals end of things and you still have the cardio superiority :D

Thought I‘d have a go at the 30 minutes yesterday, to see where my PP training has brought me so far. Old SB was 7712m (1:56.7), set four weeks ago. Plan was to start around old SB‘s pace and gradually wind it up every five minutes. This is how it went:

Everything went pretty much to plan. After 20 minutes I was down to my old SB‘s pace so I had 10 minutes left to better that. Really happy with the result and an improvement by 46m :D

I'm no great fan of the 2K distance and until last Friday I hadn't done it since October in Adelaide at the Australian Masters Games.
However, the IRL/FFMC challenges this month have 2K on the schedule, so I had no choice :!:

Things went very well and I've ended up with an SB of 8:30.5 which is 6 seconds faster than my time in Adelaide.
I'm in the process of having the time ratified as a new Australian record (85-89 Lwt.)

Congratulations, you are listed on the concept2 page as the Australian record holder at 8:36.5, I presume that was your AMG time. 6s faster is really awesome. Well Done

In the recently concluded 1000m. WRVIS competition
I managed a time of 4:01.5 which shaved 0.2 seconds from my
existing Australian record in the 85-89 Lwt. division.
The next task for this month is to do the CTC, and after that, the IRL 10k.
Just need to stay healthy :!:

Inspirational achievements Philip, many congratulations

Had a go at the IRL 10k today restricted to rate 24 and managed to dip under 38 minutes for a season's best

A nice 6k today in 21:49.5 @1:49.1 for the Spring Vlll challenge. A few seconds outside my PB. At the end I felt like I could have gone faster, but during I felt that if I went faster I'd risk HDing. So probably the right balance.

Did my 4 minutes for the Spring VIII last night and looked up my SB which was 1075m (not great) and thought I "might" be able to get close to that looking at various paces but it's very deceptive dialling in different paces in the C2 Pace Calculator as a couple of seconds increase in pace over 4 minutes doesn't bring with it a whole host of extra metres - but does bring a bucket of extra pain.
Set off hard (for me) with a projected finish of 1085m showing but paid the price in the third minute when I ran into extreme oxygen debt and felt like I was being suffocated so had to back off to about 1:58 pace just to get to about 40s to go at which point I figured I could gun it without oxygen and get something close - but actually managed to scrape over the line with 1079m. Not sure it was worth the pain and discomfort as I felt like I'd been bit by a bus for the rest of the evening. Shame it's not worth any Nonathlon points though as it would be nice to bag a couple more.

Good work Plummy. Sounds painful (just like being hit by a bus would be). At least that's out of the way now.

It is all very sprinty at the moment in the CTC and Spring Challenge.

Wasn't certain where to plonk this as it was really my effort for the Spring VIII challenge - but somehow I managed to pull a 2k time that was 1.7s faster than any 2k I managed in the whole of last year (not that last year's time was in any way spectacular - but at least is stops the rot a little). 7:36.9 for reference.

Nice 2k Plummy, I have been running scared of an all out 2k for years. Managed post 2012 best as the 4th of a 4x2k a few weeks ago. TO put it in perspective, I think a major part of my motivation for doing the FM on Sunday was an excuse to put off my 4x1k (the nearest interval session to a 2k) for another week! Well done for getting it done.

Having not really bothered about any times for several years this year may be different ...
Last year I somehow managed to complete a sub 7 2k again (not sure how and pretty sure I couldn't now), so this year there will be some effort to regain more overall fitness.
Never having done "marathon fortnight" before I did a FM and HM last week.
The FM was done as a group on zoom with 7 other members of my rowing club. Obvious target was sub 3 hrs, which was no given, but after a couple of preparation weeks did look doable.
Result was 2:56:02.9 / 2:05.1 / 20
This spurred me to then do the HM on Thu for the 2 "badges" on the meterboard for the first time ever (should have done one before the FM really, but didn't think ahead). FM result meant I had to target <2:00 ...
Result was 1:24:12.2 / 1:59.7 / 21
Looking forward to a good season (as of today we can get back OTW in singles too)

Great work there Steve! I‘m literally in a similar boat, having done a FM and a HM in the first two weeks of May ever to get those tiny badges for the meterboard. My times are nowhere yours (3:11:11 for the FM and 1:29:26 for the HM) but I‘m ok with it as the FM was a PB and I finally went sub 90 minutes for the HM again.

Same here re OTW rowing, I‘ll be back in the singles tomorrow. Let‘s have a great season, ote and otw :fswink:
