I'm seeing Bare Naked Ladies (Canadian?) at Wickham Festivalin a few weeks.

Great Christmas Album from them.

I saw them a few years ago now at the civic hall in Wolverhampton, believe it or not they were a support act for the Beautiful South (a band in my all time top 5) and I understand the Beautiful South returned the favour when they went to Canada.

I only discovered Adele recently and I was thinking of getting some of her music for my iPod. Rolling in the Deep is going to become (already is?) a classic and her two albums 19 and 21 have been numbers 1 and 2 in the Irish album charts every week for the past few months. I saw another of Canada's finest last night - RUSH.
Superb show, and after constantly working and turning out albums for 40 odd years they are still top of their game.
No support, just a brilliant 2hrs 40min of the real deal.

I'm sorry Wolfie, but RUSH never were that good and their best days were probably 25 years ago.

You'll be telling me next that KISS and BON JOVI are cutting edge bands with something to say?

You'll have gathered that "soft rock" bands are not in my top 10 (or indeed 10,000) genres and I find that much vaunted "anthemic" style over the top and frankly boring.

Hope you enjoyed the gig though. =D>

How about Bob Dylan?
70 years young today. Not one of my favourites due to his "poor" vocal qualities but an absolute legend and a fabulous song writer.

Irritated Jac today by playing him all morning. "Dylan is crap" was a tad unfair IMO. I'm quite sure that she meant "is a genius". Simple slip of the tongue.

I'm afraid that Dylan does polarise opinion.

In many ways he's very like Michael Jackson in that they're both musical geniuses but at the same time have personal attributes that make them hard to like as people.

The Dylan thing on BBC radio is driving me nuts. All week they've been banging on about his birthday as though he's some demi god. Give it a rest!

And that is what this thread, or rather music taste, is all about. It's totally subjective (the Chris Moyles show on Radio 1 this morning being a very good case in point).
So when I say Rush were very good on Sunday, they were. For me (and 10,000 others). No matter what Graham says (I need a sticking tounge out smilie here).
For the record I can't stand Kiss or Bon Jovi (but do appreciate the commercialism of the latter).
And I agree with the Dylan opinion, great song writer & musician, crap singer, no need for all the current exposure.
Jane, we are lucky having three great large venues in Brum (NIA, NEC(LG Arena!) & Symphony Hall) plus many smaller ones. Rush were at the LG unfortunately which has by far and away the worst accoustics.

We all have guilty pleasures and that in itself could be interesting.

I confess to liking all things musically that are new and undiscovered (to me that is, not necessarily everybody else) and have a low boredom threshhold so I switch very quickly between genre's. However certain songs stick with me as I have travelled through the years,

Queen - almost anything from the News of World album
Black Sabbath and Paranoid
Dave and Ansell Collins - nearly anything from the early reggae/ska populists

I'll start a new thread on first record acquired, first gig etc. Could be interesting =D>

The latest addition to our collection is 21 by Adele. Many of the tracks are at 25/26 spm and make ideal rowing music for distance pieces.

Great singer - already past the second album and getting better.

Probably at around 100 bpm so good for 25 SPM

If thta's you thing, try Asa - similar genre, similar pace, different voise.

Cara Emerald (Deleted Scenes from the Cutting Room Floor) is brilliant to row to. Some 23/24, some 25/26 some 28 and even one at 30 SPM. Great lyrics as well.

My latest "must listen" bands are Black Stone Cherry (just love White Trash Millionaire), Chickenfoot (anything with Satriani has to be good, but this supergroup is totally incredible), and back to basics with Saxon and Twisted Sister. Somehow always end up back with them, and Metallica.

Am pea green jealous of my son who going to the Def Leppard and Motley Crue Wembley gig in December. Dammit, I'm even buying his ticket (birthday....). Act of heroism on my part

You might like "Leisure Society" and somethign my boy is into called Canterbury.

For me, I've just discovered a band that folded twenty years ago called Senseless Things.

Also into Grinderman and Lull (Weapons for War is a great track).

I've got some of their stuff I think.

Where I do need some help is in the techno/electronica/trance genres.

I'm getting quite into the music but track selection is a bit of lottery at the moment. I don't really know enough about makers and purveyors of thsi material to be able to follow a theme or trend at the moment.

The Rip Chords and We are Scientists pop up as suggestions on my music machine if you like SPW. Can't say I'm familiar with these popular beat combo's

Do though have an idea for building a playlist - see separate theme
