A non rowing day

Post by webberg »

What do you do when you're not rowing? :?:

Tonight for example I can't row because we have friends over. After rowing this is one of my favourite things to do even if one of the guys tonight will bore me rigid talking about cars (don't do cars).

Other days when I have to let the body rest I might go clay shooting. 8)

Mostly in the week though its playing with the kids and household/garden chores. :?

To make me even more unpopular (with the men anyway) a favourite way to relax is to do the ironing. Always have loved this activity. My wife thinks I'm nuts but isn't complaining.

Ironing?

Post by plummy »

Webberg,
I do the ironing aswell - basically as my wife won't. It does make it easier to justify watching the Formula 1 or a dull Premiership match. I also do all the DIY/ cut the grass, vacuum/load the washing machine/dryer (or peg out if warm enough) and tidy up behind the wife and daughter. In short, I row/watch sport and tidy up after women so I have no life really - do I need to get a life?

Er, fiddle with the web site and peruse the forum. I think some people have noticed that. But also I mark books :( (can be the worst activity in the world) and entertain my (nearly 6,4 and 5 month year old) kids. I guess I watch the odd DVD too (subscriber to LoveFilm.com). I like a good book - top of my "all time" list is 'Pride and Prejudice' but in modern books 'The Poisonwood Bible' is pretty amazingly good.

I am also pretty handy and can be found weilding hand drill when the mood takes me. With my father I built the gates to my house, and tiled and waterproofed my shower after a builders' bodge up and I made a massive bookcase which has not fallen down yet (screwed to the wall). This sort of thing is done in the school holidays.

I don't do cars, football, shooting, betting or many other of the stereotypical testosterone fuelled stuff.

Hmmm, that was written in my cups after a long day taking the kids round London. Really, pretty much all I do is browse the forum entertain the kids and row. The rest is just window dressing!

Gee what an interesting bunch we all are. My wife won't let me iron as I am so anal bout it, it takes me fifteen minutes to do a t shirt!!

Although I conform to the ironing section of this forum I will admit to drinking too much and explaining to all those who don't row that I do have a life and yes it is fun.

Other stuff

Post by PSims »

Beekeeping, Winemaking, Flying (I have a Commercial Pilot's Licence though it's lapsed now), DIY around the house and garden, looking after a 2 year old, bit on the PC when there's any time left.

I do iron my own shirts as Jane doesn't do shirts, but she does all the rest!

If I didn't have to work, I could still fill my day 3 times over I reckon!!

I hate ironing, Tamsin finds it soothing.

But I won't buy an article of clothing if it needs to be ironed. I get easy care shirts and keep them on hangers. Yes, I know that that is a but sad but being a science teacher is attritional on clothes and the easy care ones are also cheaper!

My eyes have been opened since Paul introduced me to the extreme ironing web site. My new goal for this season is to iron 4 million t shirts at sub 2 min pace. In November I will entering the British Ironing Relaxation Championship in Birmingham, or I think I've entered this event could i be wrong :?

we are a sad, sad group
I too don't mind ironing while watching (American) football on Sundays. and find myself involved in more domestic projects than hanging out knuckle-dragging and mouth-breathing with the boys. I'm thinking this could be a rowing shorts-testicle-testosterone conspiracy....

Ironing!!
I suppose you could set up 2 boards very low, jump in the saddle with an iron in each hand and iron on the C2??

Maybe it's not 'Iron Oarsman' but in fact 'Ironing Oarsman' They just cut the name down to sound more macho :D

So they match the rest of the kitchen appliances :D

My wife tells me I'm allowed to finish off this joke as I've also finished the washing, ironing and cleaning.
