Sometimes it is nice to have a softer target in amongst the harder ones!

Re: Anyone had any SEASON's bests recently?
After a really tough feeling 30 mins on Tuesday (was tired the whole of the day after) I settled for my more usual 5k tonight and with no warm up I managed to slice 7.1s off my previous SB - down to 21:41.8. Potentially more in the tank if I feel brave enough to start quicker (or warm up a bit first)

Well done Plummy. Good to see you plugging away at those middle distances.plummy wrote:After a really tough feeling 30 mins on Tuesday (was tired the whole of the day after) I settled for my more usual 5k tonight and with no warm up I managed to slice 7.1s off my previous SB - down to 21:41.8. Re: Anyone had any SEASON's bests recently?
Well I warmed up with the December CTC yesterday and, like the first attempt managed to hold on for a 30' SB during what was intended to become my cooldown! on 4th managed 7091M, so realised in the middle that I was on to do it again, so maintained an hour pace after a fast final 90" of the second 5'. Only really pushed from about 6' out, finishing last 100 at 1:54/5 so more to come. Still a slightly slower average than my 10k SB last season despite being equal best score so far this season, but definitely getting closer and intend to try a serious 10k soon before trying to beat last season's SB at 6k. As my 5k & 6k are both pro-rated from the 30' at present, 26 more nonathlon points so over to you Jon (although I fear I am toast if you also get your bonus for the 10th distance).

Re: Anyone had any SEASON's bests recently?
Well done Iain. It looks like there are more SBs to come soon. Nice to have some healthy Nonathlon competition. Looking at my scores, There must be plenty of scope for me to improve on the 1K and also some room for important on my 2K. But I hope the +100 for the FM will come before that.

Re: Anyone had any SEASON's bests recently?
Not one, but two.
Tiny marginal improvements on 500m (0.5s) and 1k (1.3s)
Only possible because they were weak placeholders set at start of season as part of longer pieces.
But I did get them on interval 1 of a 10 interval CTC, so I'm happy with that!
Kind of wish I'd thought ahead enough to go for a better 500m time on the 500m interval, but I suppose the rolling start means I'd need to do it again anyhow, and that might have been pushing my luck too much.
But it has been a while since I troubled this thread...

Thanks Dave. Just looked at your SBs at my age and I have some work to do on everything below 10k (very similar at 10k) and no chance at 500 - 2k!

Re: Anyone had any SEASON's bests recently?
All day (again) helping fit my daughter's new kitchen but felt I had to get some metres on the board. I've been trading places every other day with Tim Symington and he was 5.2k ahead of me so upped my row from 5k to 6k - and with no warm up (bar kitchen fitting) managed to squeeze 5.3s off my season's best (without actually looking at my SB prior to the row).

Re: Anyone had any SEASON's bests recently?
Well done Dave. The unexpected results are always the sweetest!
You do know Dave that you are going to have to schedule a proper go without a day's kitchen fitting in your body!
Looks like Tim typically does 25k per week. If you can keep that up you will hit your first 1MM season since 2023, so are you up for the challenge?

Re: Anyone had any SEASON's bests recently?
Thanks Iain. I've been looking at my projected metre total for the season and it's been floating around 930~940k for a while so to add another 60k to that with not much season left might be asking a bit much. That said, I'm in the final knockings of finishing said kitchen (after 2 x 9 hour days this weekend) - so maybe I will get my weekends back and throw in a handful of longer, very slow rows with the extra time I'll have on my hands ... ha ha - like THAT will happen.
I have often put in better performances after a DIY/domestic God session as it acts as quite the warm up!

Re: Anyone had any SEASON's bests recently?
Tired all day today with heavy feeling legs and 8 hours at a desk barely moving - but rather than settle for 5k I set for 30 mins (because I can always quit at 5km if I'm not feeling it). The first 10 went ok but I did set off conservatively and it only felt tough when I got to 12 mins to go - so mind games and mental distraction got me to the last 5 and even then the HD demons were popping up "you've done enough", "that's a decent distance, you can stop now" etc. I hadn't put the room light on so weirdly, in the rapidly diminishing light, the game of trying to see how long was left actually helped.
I was 100% sure my SB was 6851m and I ended up with a bit of a sprint on 6827m. Good job I did that sprint because my SB was actually 6816m - so an accidental SB by 11m - and 2 whole Nonathlon points.

Not scheduled but I'll take your 6851m and raise you a 6856m. New SB by 29m - neg splits (6 mins) with the first three at 23SPM and the last two at 24SPMIain wrote: Wed Feb 25, 2026 9:03 amWell done Plummy. SO when are you scheduling the attempt on 6851

Well done! Hope to have a go at my 5k SB on Sunday, then 6k later in the month, but have put the latter off too many times. Well done for getting yours done!
