I have a solo trip starting Wednesday, a present to myself in my 60th year.
My other passion is golf, and for some reason I've long had a romantic notion of playing the best courses Australia has to offer.
I'm joining an organised internet group of 16 from the US, Canada and the UK to pay in Melbourne and Tasmania for 10 days.
The trip is greatly enhanced by having a couple of days in Sydney with our son, and a few extra days in Melbourne with our youngest daughter.
I just hope I can hit some straight as looking for golf balls in the rough is strongly advised against due to the snakes!! 8-[

You’ve made playing a round of golf sound like an epic adventure!! Australia has long been on my list to visit but still elusive to this day! (When I was promoted at my very first job, my manager apologized that it was “just a promotion” rather than a transfer to our Sidney office)

Have a great trip and happy 60th!!

I‘m off for a three week trip to Indonesia this afternoon. We are going to see Java, Bali, Komodo, Sulawesi and West New Guinea. Really excited to explore a new country and hopefully see birds of paradise, manta rays, sea turtles and Komodo dragons :D
Athletes row, others just play games

Sounds brilliant Peter. I hope you get to see some, if not all of those beasties.

After 48 years working in one sector, my wife and I decided that 2024 would be our "gap year".

We've done a trip to Seville, one to the deep South of the US (music based), going to see Mickey Mouse soon and Nov/Dec is New Zealand.

Exciting, expensive and tiring but we reckon we've earned it.

I'm off for a very long overdue holiday tomorrow so I won't be able to a) participate in any challenges and b) update the lifetime metres table. Back on the 21st at some point hopefully.

Don't have too much fun whilst I'm away :-)

Jennifer and I will be landing in San Fransisco in the next 20 minutes or so. Then, around 4 hours later, we will be boarding a plane to Auckland to visit our daughter Elaine. It’s 9 years since we were last in New Zealand and we’re looking forward to spending the next four weeks there.

Planning to tour around a bit and I even brought a pair of running shorts with me in case I get the urge to hope on an erg at some stage. But I won’t be doing it with anything like the frequency of my last visit, when I was just about the fittest I’d ever been. Now I’m at the opposite end of the spectrum, but hope to at least get a lot of walking done.

Have a great trip Paul. Maybe a goal of 1 session per week on average….just to keep the fan turning?

Hopefully you're safe and well (and getting fitter) in New Zealand, Paul.

We (my wife and I) were there from around 8th Nov 2024 to 18 December 2024.

Toured both islands - not in a camper van thank heavens - and had a fantastic time.

We were in Auckland for the final few days and had dinner in the tower.

Great scenery, we had great weather, spectacular wildlife and best of all, fantastic people.

The only slightly off people we met were tourists.

I will be in Maine (near Portland) from 5 June.

We go on a road trip to Niagara, Toronto, Montreal and Quebec from 10 June to 19 June. Then back to Maine until perhaps the end of June.

Any tips?
