Re: February CTC: Sprint Sandwich
Thanks for the welcome back guys. Given the pain my hip and glute is in this morning, I'm currently regretting going anywhere near the erg last night. Maybe it would have been the same if I hadn't rowed - who knows! I'm just waiting for the Naproxen to kick in so I can function (can neither sit or stand comfortably )

Re: February CTC: Sprint Sandwich
Well done again Dave.
I must admit I'm having a big portion of CBA at the moment, but then I think of those with injuries or other health issues and give myself a talking to
So I'm on the board.

The 200 sprints obviously helped get the split down, and just managed to crawl over the line on the 2nd 1500.

Re: February CTC: Sprint Sandwich
I've picked up a back injury and also crept over 75kg. Brilliant!
I still intend to get some kind of entry done over the next couple of days.
Meanwhile we have 21 rowers and 5 boats at the moment, but just two boats afloat.

Re: February CTC: Sprint Sandwich
Well that was horrid. I managed to hit exactly 75kg this morning so I decided to have a go despite time away nursing my back. I targeted Boat 2 and Peter Tullet’s time (sorry Peter), promising myself I would take things easy and stop if the back was not feeling ok.
I have never had the HD demons as bad as in the last 1500m. I knew I was going to struggle after the first 500m of the entire session, but things just got way, way harder. I basically used the 200m intervals as a way to recover, and I limped through the final 1500.
At least it is done and done as a lwt.

Sub 2:00 is nothing to be ashamed of when you’re being careful! Great job putting it on the books!

Well done Jon, I will not be a lightweight when I have my final attempt tomorrow and with 2 failures need to grow a pair when the going gets tough!
It would be nice if a few more ladies could also have a go despite our less than appealing comments. That said at least it isn't a 2k oh wait, that is what is awaiting us for March.

Re: February CTC: Sprint Sandwich
Third time lucky today after 2nd failure on Monday 288m into the 1500. Didn't feel quite right this morning, 30S "bursts" at 2:04 felt hard, didn't bode well, but last chance! HR much lower than first attempt even when quicker. Quite nauseous several times despite not really pushing at any time (just trying to keep going).
Time Distnc Rate Pace HRMax % HRMin %
06:24.2 1500 25 02:08.1 172 93.5% 111 60.3% - H/D demons attached before end of first 500, attacked lack of asthma drugs!
00:48.9 0200 28 02:02.3 169 91.8% 143 77.7% - Managed a puff of inhaler before, not sure how much went in as blowing hard
00:48.5 0200 28 02:01.2 170 92.4% 138 75.0% - Actually felt a bit more controlled
00:47.9 0200 30 01:59.8 172 93.5% 139 75.5% - 2nd half struggle
00:47.8 0200 30 01:59.5 173 94.0% 145 78.8% - how can 200 be so long!
00:47.9 0200 31 01:59.8 174 94.6% 146 79.3% - not giving up again
06:27.3 1500 25 02:09.1 178 96.7% 147 79.9% - surprised self as eased off but pace stayed similar, no sprint in me!
16:52.4 4000 26.1 2:06.5 178 96.7%
Thanks Jill and Ingrid for getting me on the water in FS5, sorry Roger for pushing you onto the bank!
So now have to get ready for 2k!

Well done on getting one completed despite the demons Iain. Also, as you say, to Jill and Ingrid for putting times in

Re: February CTC: Sprint Sandwich
Nice push through Iain! Loved the story, I was cheering you along!
I did my final push on this one for the month. The goal was sub 1:50 on average - my thought was do 1:50 on the nose for the first 1500', do around 1:47 for the 200s, building up a bit of a buffer, and then do a slower maybe 1:51 or 1:52 final 1500 that would all average out to 1:50. Sadly fell a bit short -- 1:50.3, was a good effort but the last 1500 really ate my lunch again.
1. 1500m @ 1:48.2 (5:24.6, Max HR: 167)
2. 200m @ 1:49.0 (0:43.6, Max HR: 158) -- recovery!!! haha.
3. 200m @ 1:48.2 (0:43.3, Max HR: 157)
4. 200m @ 1:49.2 (0:43.7, Max HR: 157) -- slower time here was a harbinger of the doom to come
5. 200m @ 1:49.5 (0:43.8, Max HR: 160) -- slower and max HR going up. *cry*
6. 200m @ 1:49.7 (0:43.9, Max HR: 162) -- yeeeeeep.
7. 1500m @ 1:53.3 (5:40.1, Max HR: 178) - yikes! but survived.
Total time: 14:43.0 (improved by 15.7 seconds)
Now time to gird my loins for 2k... the distance I never row but is the gold standard of rowing. haha.

Re: February CTC: Sprint Sandwich
Well done all and thanks for the support Plummy & Rob. Well today no Doms, so maybe should have gone harder yesterday. Celebrated with a slower row, but definitely grey so allowed myself a modest faster section towards the end. Details on the "What Training" thread. Rob, interesting approach, I found an "easier" first 1500 could be made up for in the 200s, you definitely showed the effort in that last 1500, if worried with HR in later 200s, what does that say about the final 1500! I always try to maximise the use of the rests, so while I understand going easier on the first 200 after the 1500 and maybe the last before the final 1500, but I suspect you might have pushed harder on the middle three without having much impact on the final interval.
Good luck all on the 2k
