I read the book around ten years ago and loved it. I thought it was the best sports book I had ever read.
The film is now in the cinema and I’m hearing mixed reviews. I would be interested to hear from anyone who has been to see it.

I’ve been tempted too - read the book last year, loved it but also have heard the movie falls short.

I’m planning to. I was just looking for feedback from anyone who’s seen it. I’ll definitely go, but I don’t want to inflict it on the lovely Jennifer if it sounds like she wouldn’t enjoy it.Wolfmiester wrote: ↑Tue Jan 16, 2024 2:14 pm Just go and see for yourself

Re: The Boys in the Boat
I went and watched it. Me and a grand total of two of my closest totally unknown strangers! Haha. I found it about what I expected, the movie seemed to me to focus differently than the book. I found the character development a bit shallow compared to the book -- it didn't engage me at the personal level of investment ("I want these guys to win") that I had while reading the book. I will say that this genre is one of my usual go-tos -- along the lines of Rudy, Remember the Titans, and Miracle - stories of the underdog winning out against seemingly insurmountable odds. As to whether my non-rowing spouse would have loved it, hard to tell, she likes the "period piece" so the 1930's setting might appeal to her...
