Hello from the other side!

Post by Recess »

Hi everyone,

It's been a while since I popped back here to say hello. Even though I moved on from Free Spirits, had a brief jaunt with FM and now run my own team, I still consider myself a Free Sprirt. The FS hoodie hasn't become a rag for painting in - which is always a good sign!!!

I made a video yesterday about "in case of emergency" technique cues to keep you from falling apart at the end of a race when it all starts to get a bit dark - and the footage I used of me rowing was back when I was rowing with you guys - at Madchester 2015 when I broke the British (and then briefly World) record for the 1000m 40-49 Lwt - and then my solo jaunt to Crash-B in Boston where I came 4th. (You can watch the video here if you like https://youtu.be/621uU373PRI - it's about 45 seconds in).

If you don't mind, I'm also going to post something on the Training and Racing page about the comp I've got coming up "The Grid" - where rowers pick 4 out of 12 ranked workouts and try to win their 'grid'. I'll put full details in the main post (also at rowalong.com/thegrid) but I didn't want to come here for the first time in ages with a whole bunch of spammy messages.

I just wanted to say that even though I no longer have Free Sprits next to my name, it's my first team, and will always be part of me. And no, I've not been drinking, it's only 10:03!!

Hi John, good to hear from you. Your training and technique vids are amongst if not actually the most informative and entertaining out there and always a great watch (advantage of being a film editor I think). No problem from where I sit re your posting with you clearly still being a Free Spirit at heart.

Regards

Hi John

I fully agree with Dave here. Great to see you in here once in a while! Just noticed your new team is just ahead of us in the team ranking ;-)

Someone already mentioned your new competition in here, and I think it was in the indoor rowing league post as that one is history. But feel free to share more details. I want join it as My height gives me a horrible handicap but most importantly it does not fit my training plan towards BRIC. Hope to meet you there!

All the best from Norway!
Keep those videos coming, though I do not row along to them, I love the ones with tips&tricks.

I promoted the Grid on the main forum a while back John, but feel free to highlight it again.

Ah, I might just pop back when it's running then and say it has kicked off, but still time to join in. On the one hand I want as many people to know about it as possible, but I also know there are the right ways and wrong ways to cross promote!
