Thought I’d bump this thread as it’s been a while, 500m 1:57.3 easy start building my useless power through to the finish

Good bump. I tend to stay clear of the SB thread for at least a month because they are easy pickings (ha! - he says).

I've only recorded one ranking distance so far this season in my all time SB/PB spreadsheet and it's for the 1000m @ 4:06.7 (against last season's SB at 3:51.5). Yes, I am THAT slow right now.. :-(

Nice marker Colin

I'd forgotten Id put the above post on here but kind of handy because, I managed a new SB for 1k yesterday. Normally I wouldn't post but it was actually a 2 year SB beating last season's SB ( 3:51.5 ) by 1.4s down to 3:50.1 - so happy there's a little bit of life in my legs. Two hours later I did the CTC and managed to negative split all 9 reps but could feel the fatigue in my legs towards the later reps so I might have another go after my holiday (away for a week from the 15th)

Hoping to bring down today’s 2k SB to around 8:40 in small steps  in preparation for the Australian Masters Games in October.

Well… I guess I’m back. Howdy again, y’all. My job has been crazy and a bit all consuming but pushing right up against the big 30 (that’s sadly 300 pounds) made me decide I was making “poor life choices”.

But for anyone wondering what six months of decadence can do to your rowing game.. here it is. On the plus side, I’ve had lots of new seasons bests… hahahaha.

As Jon says- welcome back. Every journey starts with that single step! - again ;-)

I managed an SB at 2k on Saturday (not that I'd done anything bar glorified warm-ups at that distance) getting down to 8:14 and change (SB last season was 8:08 - so maybe do-able to scrape ahead of that).

Was going to attempt the CTC on ergzone, but sadly the app hadn't been updated so decided a 5k for the nonathon was in order. Set up a rerow from the best of the last few years and off I went. Result achieved so happy with the improvement 23:02.4

I've adopted the 6k as my new "normal training day" workout - mostly to survive the Dog Days (5 x 6k will at least get me through week 3, though week 4 is going to take a little work). In celebration, I squished out a new SB in the 6k @ 25:41.4, almost precisely a 3 minute improvement from my starter SB on July 4 -- and a bit more than a minute short of one of my weaker PBs (never got around to redoing this distance when I was in better shape last year) -- so maybe that will fall as I continue to rediscover my lost skillz.

That's a great improvement Rob. I find doing one of my few (possibly only) Half Marathons of the season is a good way of getting a boost for the last week of Dog Days.

The mental battle with wonky technique continues unabated this year but managed 2 x 30 min rows last week with the 2nd one being better than the first - and therefore by default a new SB @ 6813m (last year's best was 6954m).
I spotted I hadn't tried a 500m this season in anything other than "bit of a push" mode so targeted that 2:01.6 in the hope of worrying last year's 1:48.0 SB - and managed 1:48.5, so certainly worried it a bit. Just need to find another 0.6s for a two year SB =P~

91 nonathlon points though - which is nice!

Keep plugging away Plummy. The Dog Days challenge will probably encourage me to put in some longer set piece times this month. My Nonathlon scores are a bit sparse at the moment.

Updated my 2k time after getting back on the rower for a couple months. New season best @ 7:49.5 -- but still 30 seconds off a personal best. Next up looks like a 5k refresh.. easy pickings?

A SB 5k even though I consider it subpar. 20.57.3, some way from a PB attempt later in the year. Was done as 1st rep of 2x5k, 5'r, R24 but ended R27, not even close and the 2nd rep was woeful at 2.09 pace. Looking for the positives it is a SB and heading in the right direction.

Knowing you had a second 5k in the pipe shortly after you probably had a bit more in the tank so I can see more SB's coming when it's just a standalone 5k. Nice SB!
