Weight Conundrum

Post by PSims »

As most of you know, there is a classification (for Men) by weight as:

Lightweight Men <= 165lbs (75kg)
Heavyweight Men > 165lbs (75kg)

So my question is…what happens when you start a workout as a Heavyweight, but finish as a Lightweight, which happened to me today!

Do you log it as LWT or HWT?!

:-?

Hi Paul,

the weight before the workout counts. If you're racing as a lightweight for example the window for your weigh in is between two and one hours before your race.
Athletes row, others just play games

You must be close to crossing over to join us LWTs though! :fswink:

Peter is correct. He was at a weigh-in in Germany once and his scale weight was flickering between 75.1 and 75.0kg and he'd entered as a LWT so had a problem to solve. I remembered Iain G telling me once that he'd told someone in the exact same circumstance to take their glasses off so advised Peter to do the same - and hey presto, settled on 75kg. There are some fine margins in this game.

However, your post has reminded me of another question I have - I'm currently stuck at about 76.5kg and entering the CTC as a HWT. If I were to enter a result as a HWT and then dropped that 1.5kg and entered a LWT result, which points do I get attributed, the highest counting position (or both sets of points?? :D :lol: [-o< :roll: )

Thanks Dave, it was actually me at BIRC, was going to remove my top, but the glasses were sufficient! You are closer than me. 77.8kg before my CTC, although that is over 1kg in a month, so might make it back to lightweight this season if I keep the rowing up!

Only half an hour's moderate erging for a mars bar! Unfortunately I am so slow at present that it would take a full on 5k!

Will be a bit tougher for me - I will have to lose a leg and an arm(and I don't wear glasses :D )

To keep my administration slightly bearable in this case I'll write down the highest score, Plummy. Though that might lead to one boat with only four results, well, never mind, perhaps two scores would also be possible. Nice way to work your way up to the top.
