February ctc - 3:00/2:30/2:00/1:30/1:00 1‘r

Post by Grobi »

Hi all,

team FIRT have decided on the February ctc:

„ FIRT'S countdown
Row the following intervals, with free rate and rolling starts if you wish after the first interval (must be standing on that one).
3:00/1:00r
2:30/1:00r
2:00/1:00r
1:30/1:00r
1:00

Your score will be the total distance rowed on those total 10:00.“

Sounds like fun :^o

I live in the hope that one day I will read of the next CTC and say to myself “I like the sound of that”

Today is not that day :?

Had an early go today. After having covid at the beginning of January my lungs and my breathing still aren't 100%. A couple of the reps I almost didn't start on time coughing.

10:00 min 2638m 1:53.7 / 27
3:00 min 1:55.2
2:30 min 1:54.6
2:00 min 1:54.5
1:30 min 1:53.0
1:00 min 1:47.1

Good luck to everyone this month. The good thing about this workout is knowing each interval gets shorter.

There's more there. Maybe.

Seems to be demanding sub 2k pace.....

Well done everyone for putting in an early score! It seems we have FS 1 already floated =D>

I had my second go at this today with the aim of simply beating my previous score of 2670m. This is how it went;

I was surprised how well it went and am very happy with an improvement by 56m. I might have another go later in the month.

Strong scores there Peter and Ian =D> I was feeling a bit better today so had another try at this.

10:00 min 2723m 1:50.1 / 29
3:00 min 1:53.0
2:30 min 1:51.9
2:00 min 1:50.7
1:30 min 1:47.3
1:00 min 1:41.3

Wasn't targeting Peters score. Figured that was a bit far away given my performance last week but was happy to see I ended up only 3 meters behind.

Pete used to reckon 6 X 500 R 1' was at 2k pace. For most probably a little longer average than 500, but declining lengths and 1 fewer reps should allow a little faster.

Hope will go better than last month when I failed to complete a stand alone 1k with fastest time from a 4k, 3k, 2k, 1k interval session!

Why do CTC interval sessions have such short rests? I see key here is that insufficient recovery will bite making pacing really tough. That said, in my current pitiful condition really glad that we don't have something longer, but expect a few failures so need to do a session soon.

Does anyone know whether the Carole McN Memorial will run on 14th?

I reckon it will. I'll most probably have a go next Tuesday.

Just finished the Feb CTC. A lot better then expected. First goal was to get on the board, warm-up wasn't particularly great, but during the first rep it felt okay and decided to put more effort in it then originally planned.

Exactly! And to keep this competition going I decided to have my third go at this last night. Aim was simply to beat my previous score of 2726m / 1:50.0.
This is how it went:

Really pleased with an improvement by 45m over my previous attempt. It was quite a tough one, but I also think this is an excellent peace of training. Can't wait to have another go :^o

Finally kicked myself up the backside and got the CtC done :~c All I can say is that I’m glad it wasn’t the other way around, beginning with 1’ and building to 3’!!

Next attempt?? I can see you’ve not lost that sense of humour Dave =;
That was definitely enough for me, especially as I’ve got to pluck up the courage for my first real 2k in about 10 years for the IRL!!

Today's game was to see how far I could push those first two reps, and then cling on for dear life for the rest:

The strategy worked, but I think that's it for the month.

Great efforts Mat and Ian!!

My 3rd attempt today. Plan was to do the first rep at 1:49 then drop 1 sec a rep then max out last minute.

10 min 2769m 1:48.3 / 30
3:00 min 1:50.5
2:30 min 1:49.4
2:00 min 1:48.4
1:30 min 1:46.8
1:00 min 1:41.3

The first 3mins I just wasn't feeling 1:49 ended up a bit slower. Still was able to complete the rest of the plan.
Temporarily bumps me up to boat 1. Still agood way behind Peter though.
