October CTC: 3x2k+2´r
The Diamonds (Over Sixties Erging Group) have chosen the October CTC.
It's going to be;
The Super Sixties Stopping 6k
3 x 2k with 2 minute recoveries.
No restrictions.
First rep from a stationary Flywheel, rolling starts ok after that.

I quite like the look of this one. I may give it a few goes at different levels of "commitment".

Re: October CTC: 3x2k+2´r
I thought I’d have a crack at this to get an idea of pace. The target I set was my current 5k pace of 2:01. I think this is a bit soft to be honest.
Anyway, pacing went completely out of the window, as did the idea of starting at a sensible pace this time and building up next month. Ended with a pace of 1:59.1 which is 5k-2 or 2k+7. Completely knackered at the end. Spidermac was in my ear telling me to increase the rating!

We'll, 5k -2 sounds pretty reasonable for a first pass....

A line in the sand as I really wanted to get a result, quite pleased with that last one as it was only just a second or two slower than my seasons best.

Done early since our Nationals are almost upon us. It won't put me in the 1st boat as I did it at R18 but it will fill a boat. R18 so it was a better fit for my training plan.

Re: October CTC: 3x2k+2´r
I took a stab at this today. I mentally figured that just a week or so ago I set a new 1-Hour PB of just under 2:02, so 1:55 shouldn't be too hard for a measly 2K series of 3 rows with rest between. I didn't do the math to realize that 1:55 was a 7:40 2K pace. My 2K PB sat at 7:37.1 set way back in the 16/17 season. I don't really do 2K's for speed much.
You can see where this is going. I started the first 2K hovering at 1:55 or a bit under on some strokes. After about 1200 meters, I wondered how the heck this segment wasn't over yet. I looked down at the "projected finish time" and saw it hovering just under 7:40. That's when it dawned on me. I realized then that I was rowing at or near my 2K PB pace, so I sped up a bit and managed to finish the first 2K segment at 7:33.4 - a new PB! I knew I wasn't going to repeat that, so I took my 2 min rest and decided I'd be happy with a 1:58/1:59 pace for the next two. However, my RowPro software appeared to lock up after only 200+ meters into the 2nd 2K. I didn't realize until I'd been stopped several seconds that even though RowPro was not responding, my PM3 monitor had kept right on going, so I could have kept going. Unfortunately, I lost my mojo over that fiasco and cut it short, happy with the PB.
Then I rowed a 5K just to get some meters in for the Fall Challenge. Weird day.

What are you like Ron!!
Great effort on the 2K. It feels like there must be another PB in there just waiting. The RowPro failure is a bummer. It doesn’t feel completely stable to me since they did the huge upgrade. I use ErgData for anything I care about.

Re: October CTC: 3x2k+2´r
Great early performances already from Ian, Colin and Lesley as well as a nice tester from Jon
Ron - throwing in a PB for good measure
I had a disastrous 5x5 session on Monday and though tempted to do it again properly, I decided instead to have a shot at the CTC. Tough going with a few questions at the end of interval 2, but happy with the final result

Re: October CTC: 3x2k+2´r
Probably could go faster, I just really, really dislike the pain associated with trying...
I'm still running the old Version 4 RowPro and glitches are so rare as to be mostly unnoticed. I figured no big deal since it's still early in the month. I'm also still using a PM3 monitor (a PM5 is on my xmas wish list), so I won't *think* ErgData is an option with that one.

Re: October CTC: 3x2k+2´r
I'm in awe of you lot who keep going month in month out
Some way to complete a 2k pb Ron
I'm in the doldrums, my last erg being Sept CTC on 8/9.
I need to change that I guess.
No surprise this one finished below desired target pace of 1:56
1 - 1:55.8 nearly sick in the rest
2 - 2:01.6 a couple of little handle downs
3 - 2:01.6 looks much easier than it was. Started @2:05 and promising myself I'd just finish and put a time in. Half way there I realised 8:06 ish would get me <2:00 ave and managed to bring it home with a speed up in the final 300m.
23:56.3 @ 1:59.7
Horrible, horrible, horrible

So…
- Huge respect for picking that handle back up
- Don’t wait another month before erging again - we’ll expect another attempt before month end
- keep on keeping on

Re: October CTC: 3x2k+2´r
Had a go on an old C2 on the ship in a sweltering gym so like Wolfie, it was horrible. Did it early as my LWT status was going out of the window for sure on this cruise. (IRL attempt may need to wait a day or three)
25:25.4 with a couple of stops in reps 2 and 3. The first rep was only 11s slower than my SB so maybe that was a mistake.

Re: October CTC: 3x2k+2´r
Well that hurt more than I wanted it to! I put in a trial effort at the end of last month with a pace of 1:59.1, so that was the obvious target.
I managed it, but with a far higher HR than last time, and hence a lot more discomfort.
Apparently my heart stopped in the final interval. I know it hurt, but surely the afterlife would look a bit different to this!

Nice one JonT - liking the spm!!!
Dreading this session as the PP 4x2k session is a nemesis for me & you get 5min rests!!!!
wup - 2k
Time Dist spm HR split
07:52.1 2000 28 154 01:58.0
07:50.1 2000 29 158 01:57.5
07:48.0 2000 30 161 01:57.0 - HD`s appearing.
23:30.2 6000 28 157 01:57.5
CD - 2k
Well that was unpleasant!!! Splits look a lot more controlled than the reality! You are pretty safe Ian I won`t be trying this again!!!!

Re: October CTC: 3x2k+2´r
I did a repeat of Draggon's experience today... was going to try to improve my October CTC a little, got too enthusiastic early on, realized it was too hard for the first cycle, but took the new 2k PB (7:18.3) by 1.7 seconds. hah. Unfortunately, since it was logged as a 2021 metere with the 21 rest meters, it's an "unofficial" new PB.
