Member of the month?

Post by webberg »

As part of a process of re-engaging and looking to bring others into using the forum a little more often, I've been thinking about challenges etc. I've posted an idea about creating internal teams for quarterly competition - see New Life.

I've been wondering about profiling one (or more) members each month. A little bio perhaps, some info on their average rowing pattern, times, distances, what motivates them (or not), hidden skill, etc.

Also been thinking about whether selection of said individual(s) might be based on - for example - a new PB or more distance than usual in a week/month or achieving something outside rowing.

This needs a panel of interviewers and a writer.

I'm seeing full editorial rights to the individual here so nothing published without approval.

Perhaps also a round robin email to all members on the above and giving the option to opt out?

I like this idea Graham. To keep it simple maybe we could just have someone kick off providing a personal profile covering the areas you suggest and or any others and at the end they simple nominate the next rower of the month, who then picks up the baton. There is an "About me" thread but it is rarely used and your idea would provide us with a more regular flow of posts.

In terms of the mass email, we have 12,000 registered members and a server that would definitely wobble if we tried to email them all. Most servers are set to stop this from happening. I suspect we also never asked for consent to use email addresses, and finally if lot's of people flag the email as spam we would end in a bad place for any future email communications. I think I probably need to do a "cull" of members at some point. There are a lot of members who have registered many, many years ago and have never posted at all. I'm not sure why, given you can view most of the forum without registering.

How about you kicking off the Member of the Month thread Graham?

Thinking on this and perhaps we need to come up with a list of questions?
