Amazing. Well done Mr.P.plummy wrote:Scooched along another place to exactly 42 million lifetime yesterday with a 7151m done in little bits and pieces (too tired to do it all in one). Helped myself to a Gold star - hope that's ok?
Plummy
What a fantastic story Mike. Congratulations on both the recovery and the 10 million!FlbrkMike wrote:Hello everybody, I haven't posted here in probably a couple of years but I wanted to share this milestone because it has some significance, to me at least, beyond being a big round number (you don't have to make the million meter milestones exact, do you?)
I purchased my Model C in 1995 and used it regularly until about 2009 or 2010. By that time I had developed arthritis in both hips so bad that I couldn't even reach the bar in its holder when strapped into the footpads, so I basically put it away in the garage for a couple of years. I also never logged my meters on the C2 website so there is no "official" record of that work. In 2011 I had bilateral hip replacements (technically "resurfacing") and decided to get the erg out to help with my recovery. At that time I also replaced my PM2 monitor with a PM3 (I think), started logging my meters on the C2 website and joined Free Spirits. My PM2 had something like 25 million meters on it when I replaced it (you could extract the total meters from the monitor) and 99.99% of those were mine, but there's no record of them at this point.
When my shock cord finally gave out last year I took the opportunity to replace not just the cord but the chain and sprocket, the perforated flywheel cover, the damper and the footpads, as well as the monitor with a PM5. I now have a 27 year old erg that works like new.
At any rate, these 10 million meters represent my workouts from about April 2011, just after my hip surgery, which was one of the best choices I've ever made. I've had a few years since then with not so many meters but I'm on a pretty good pace this season (#32 "with a bullet" on the Free Spirits meter board today.
Thanks to everybody for all the support this community provides.
