Very good Wolfie - it is indeed the latter ^O^ ^O^ - Syd Barrett in acid heaven, it would seem.

some more lines :

“I know a mouse and he hasn’t got a house
I don’t know why I call him Gerald
He's getting rather old but he's a good mouse”

Thanks Jill. I’m just back from a three day visit to Liverpool, where we went on a 3 hour private Beatles tour by taxi, visited the Beatles Experience, went to The Cavern Club (or should I say, the replica of the original Cavern Club that is across the road from where the original stood) and had dinner in the Hard Days Night hotel. We also had a drink in the Philharmonic Bar, which is where Paul MacCartney performed at the end of the Carpool Karaoke episode in which he featured. If you haven't seen that particular episode, it’s on YouTube and a must see for any Beatles fan.

Anyway, as you can see, I’m quite a fan myself, so if I hadn’t recognised that song, there would be no hope for me. I was very tempted to put up another Beatles song, but I’ve managed to resist the urge (although it was quite a struggle). Anyway, here goes:

Every other hour that I spend with you
Is not in the least bit sad

I think this song might be better known in Ireland than elsewhere. I’ll put up the first few lines and if they don’t ring a bell, I’ll put up something else (perhaps by the same artist).

I've no wish to hurry you, love
But have you seen the time
It's quarter to ten and we're supposed to be there at nine

OK. I'm going to put up another song by this artist. A few of his songs have already featured in this thread, but not this one, which was his first hit record, though mainly on this side of the Atlantic.

When I'm drinking my Bonaparte Shandy
Eating more than enough apple pies

I’m going to put up the first few lines of the second song. If that doesn’t ring a bell, I’ll put you all out of your misery.

If I give up the seat I've been saving
To some elderly lady or man
Am I being a good boy?
Am I your pride and joy?
Mother please if you think say I am

Looks like nobody is going to get this. Final clue.

The songs are by an Irish singer songwriter who had a very successful couple of years at the start of the 1970s, with number ones on both sides of the Atlantic.

OK. The songs were by Gilbert O'Sullivan - the first one was Matrimony and the second was Nothing Rhymed. Here's one that was a huge hit on both sides of the Atlantic.

And I hope that you have all
That you ever dreamed of

I think this thread has run out of steam and it might be time to put it to sleep. If nobody guesses this song within the next few days, I’ll post the answer and it’s then up to anyone else to wishes to post some lyrics.

The song was written in the 1979s by a famous country music singer-songwriter. It became a huge global hit in the early 1990s when it was recorded by another singer who has since passed away.

From your clues I am going to guess Kenny Rogers

Not Kenny Rogers. The person who wrote the song is still going strong. It was the singer who recorded the hugely successful cover version who died around ten years ago.

OK, one final clue before I give up. The 1990s version of the song featured on the soundtrack of a movie and the album is the best selling movie soundtrack album of all time. The song was sung by the female star of the movie.

Plummy, the alternative name for this song could be ' A Walk Down Doncaster High Street ' but of course, it's actually, ' Another Day In Paradise '.

As this thread is in great danger of becoming extinct, here is an easy challenge, which shouldn't cause too much head scratching ...

' Cool cat, lookin' for a kitty '

I'm wondering what has happened to Peter, as he hasn't put in an appearance for quite a while. I do hope that all is hunky-dory across the pond.

Thanks Jill. We are OK, just not "hotter than a match head"! #-o

I almost looked at this thread 7 hours ago (4:30am), since I thought you would be prompt with a new song. Good thing I stayed in bed.

Lots more lyrics come to mind, but I think the title is Summer in the City.
