Unfortunately Steve wasn't able to row the challenge this month. Hope you will be back soon, Steve.
This raised the opportunity for Kevin to enter the top 3, congrats.

Glad to have an entry again myself after bailing out for four months.

25 this month (lowest number this year, except for the Valentine challenge of course), no new entries, have fun with the minute of pain in November. It's over before you know it so hopefully some more Free Spirits this time.

Overall not the best month for us spirits. Looking at the scores, for most of us not in boat 1 it's the lowest one this year. Nevertheless, 29 entries, better then last month.
The top 7 remains the same, Paul G climbed two places, numbers 8, 9 and 10 are very close.
Mat, still #1, but of course, after the operation, I think this month's challenge, rowing 1000 mtr will be difficult. Hope all's well, Mat.

Good luck with the last CTC this year.

Thanks a lot Fred once more :-)
As an admin note, Mike Chanin participated in quite a few of the early ones. Is it possible to check past data for slightly different usernames?

Sorry, found no Mike Channin or a username that might be connected to Mike in the list since 2013.

From what I could see in the archives, then Mike did 7 ctcs in the early days, from July 2006 till January 2007.

Actually, Mike was very active at the time - he devised a whole lot of long-distance challenges which really got me motivated back into exercise after a bout of ill health , so I have a lot to thank him for.

2021 has come to an end. Lots of congratulations to Mat who managed to keep his (well deserved) first position despite being operated upon not long ago.
Of course he's not the only one coping with health setbacks last year. I think Lesley deserves an applause, she missed the first 3 CTC's and managed to enter the top 10 in December.

Thanks to Jayne Atkinson, with her first entry in December, we had fifty participants last year.
By the way, December was not the best month looking at the boat positions. Boat #1 finished at the 33rd place.

Having said that, I think it's great everyone is competing the way they do. Hopefully everyone here continues with success in 2022. In which year there's already one great rower back in the team. Welkom terug, Tako.

The top 10:
Matthew Leonard (H) 13 2254
Claudius (H/L) 13 2201
Kevinhorne44 (H) 13 2136
Crushy (H) 13 1959
Steve Smith (H) 12 1915
Jon P Taylor (L) 13 1900
Peter Weiß (H) 13 1898
Paul Gould (H) 13 1778
Lesley Duffy (F) 10 1776
David Plumb (L) 13 1770

(off the record: been away from the forum last couple of weeks, have seen the results entered the first few days of January and, Claudius, quite an amazing score you managed already. And Plummy, great to see your result despite your current situation)

Thank you Fred.
I am lucky there are not very many women completing the CTC each month. They are all rather brilliant though.

I am focused on WRIC (I was always going virtual from here) so Jan and Feb will be less than 100%.
Cheers, Lesley

Congratulations to you all!

Fred, you are doing a great job keeping the stats!
Dank je wel!

Also thanks for the welcome Fred, though I have to tell, what those following my scores last year will know already, hence, I cannot always fit the CTC into the training regime I am following and don’t always post a fast score. Having said that, I am planning to post a score for each challenge, as all scores count!!!

This month there is no excuse as the 6k is an excellent choice for a challenge. Everyone can do it. Either slow recovery (contributing to the VTC) or as TT trying to PB a ranking peace.

Thank you Fred for the fantastic job you've done in maintaining these records

Thanks also for the congratulations
I think it goes without saying that if he'd not had a couple of "easy" CTC entries, then there's no question that Claudius would have taken top spot. His performance as a lightweight is often the strongest in Boat 1 and definitely lifts us a few places up the league table. January's entry shows that he';s started even more strongly this year ^O^

This has been the first time for many years that I've completed a full year of CTCs, and with running now permanently off the agenda, I'm hoping to do the same this year. Whilst I wasn't sure of doing any rowing 6 weeks post hip replacement, the 1k proved manageable, but this months 6k will certainly be a far greater challenge  As of this morning, I'm up to 3k, and am determined to be able to manage the full 6k by month end :P

Thanks again Fred, and well done to all participants in 2021

Great to see you posting times, Huw!
Great also to see you back rowing, Mat - fingers crossed for a speedy recovery.

I did 6k @ 2:00 as the first part of my HM yesterday, but having not set the splits correctly, I didn't get an exact time, so I'll have to do it again... :-(

My first attempt this month I HDed after 5300m, though, Tako...  Would have been easier with a timed piece...

Well done! Congrats on putting in a score.

I am still struggling with my body, so won’t have a second go, though I am tempted seeing the two in front of me, not to mention Mr Weiß

Thirty-six participants in January. Great!! Six more then the top in 2021. Five completely new entries, hopefully you will continue, Patricia, Vernon, Gus, Paul and tdfjones :fswink:

Overall a lot of participants as well, maybe because it was a ranking piece as well, maybe because of new years resolutions.
Great of course, but it also led to the 'problem' that our last floating boat ended out in position 112, which would have led to a lower number of points then the minimum one gets merely for participating. For now, boat 7 and 8 both have 100 points. Should the problem arise more often something should be done about the counting. A couple of years back there has been a discussion about this, but since then it didn't occur. Let's see how it goes this time.

Some nice round numbers: Louise 10 CTC's, Kevin 20, Allen H 20, Jon 75, Clare 120 and Peter: 150. Congrats

Don't forget: February 14: the Carole McNally Memorial, 1402 meters. Approximately half the usual number of points to be gained.

And, finally: due to others not completely in shape of course, I ended out in boat 1. That was a long time ago...

Thanks for the update Fred, and for taking this on for another year.

I will try to remember this year that the Carol McNally event is not just there to be rowed, but is also “competitive”. I did it as a warm up for a session last year and got very few points #-o [-X

I can’t believe I have done 75 of these now. It feels like just yesterday when I started!

Hi Fred
i’ve discovered that the pre-2013 column showing total entries indicates that I had 48. This is incorrect; it should be 64 entries made up as follows:

2006: 3 entries
2007: 10 entries
2008: 12 entries
2009: 12 entries
2010: 10 entries
2011: 12 entries
2012: 5 entries
Total = 64 entries

Could you please adjust the record accordingly ?
Thanks very much for all your ongoing work keeping abreast of the stats.
