Had a break for a few days and just heard this and it appears it's not been used before:

"Some people sleep all alone every night
Instead of taking a lover to bed"

(Early 80's for a timeframe clue)
60 yrs old, 76kg, 5' 10"
43Mm metres rowed. Re-setting the bar much lower now. Getting too old for this malarky

Time for a clue:

This band has a tenuous? connection with the Columbine massacre and this track is in a genre very unlike the majority of the band's music.

Hope that helps.

Nope :D
  Another clue then :
The video of the track features an actor from the "Clockwork Orange".

A more cryptic clue now:
The band could be said to comply with one of the principal COVID protocols.

Paul, the only actor that I can think of who starred in ' Clockwork Orange ', is Malcolm McDowell.

Guessing here - as some groups like to dress up, would the covid protocol be WEAR A MASK?

No idea who they are though.

Good thinking there - they do wear masks

I'm at a loss here. The only actors I can think of (without Googling) are Malcolm McDowell and Warren Clarke...which helps not at all.

Yes to Slipknot, and to Malcolm McDowell - well done Plummy.

I think I may as well put you all out of your misery - the song is "Snuff" by Slipknot - Malcolm McDowell features in the video.

Plummy, over to you.

Kenny Rogers and Dolly Parton maybe? -

Those lyrics sound very C&W to me.

The first two lines sometimes help:

Said our love would always be true

This clearly isn't going so to bring it to an end, it's "On My Own" by Michael McDonald and Patti Labelle

Not sure I've got the library of songs to keep this fresh and interesting to be honest. I'm quite happy for someone else to step in with a suggestion.

I'll put one in then - if only to keep the thread going, if everyone is OK with that?
