Setting the piece up as Variable intervals will not record the 6th rest piece
That's what I meant - is this acceptable?

The session is 12mins active, so is it over at the end of the last active piece, rather than having to have a rest interval afterwards?
(Normally it makes no difference, but in this challenge where the meters overrun on the end of the active piece does all the damage...)

It seems fair to me (although more hassle to set up) - the aim of the rest meter penalty is to stop people jumping the start, although the way it is specified means it penalises rowing to the end of the active time.
Overrun meters after you've finished the challenge shouldn't really count against you.

(Hoping for a simple challenge for November...)

Yes , the popular thinking over on the C2 forum is that variable intervals is acceptable so that is what I will do(whenever I do an interval session I use the Variable Interval setup)

Sounds a good plan - I set up for Timed intervals and I'm not sure if I added a load of rest meters on the last interval.
Thanks for confirming the behaviour of the variable intervals set up, BTW, and good luck with your attempt.

I used this as a gentle row to see how my back feels after a few weeks off the ergo. Just plodded through. At the pace I was rowing there should have been zero rest meters, but I lost focus listening to music and still managed 0/0/5/12!/0. I used variable intervals and then lost track of which interval I was in, so stopped early on the final one. Can you tell I wasn't really "in the zone"?  #-o #-o

Now we wait until tomorrow morning to see how the back is doing.

Numbers of entries for Free Spirits is notably low this month, probably because of the format I imagine.

What did I do? That was back when I enjoyed rowing (some of the time, at any rate).
Yeah, I guess I can still recall some resemblance of that feeling, Paul... (You did an even more ridiculous challenge back then - The Blind Devil

To me the text on the c2ctc.com site is clear one the matter: Row six repetitions of 2 minutes with 1 minute rest.. So the strict interpretation is that the last interval should be followed by 1 minute rest. At least that is how I did the thing... But I won´t mind people doing it with only 5 rest periodss, I must admit...

I bet that's a story - the Isle of Wight is pretty sizeable - even in a car. Would love to hear more on that - maybe in the Sanctuary?

Jon - good luck - hope the back held up and you didn't get a bad reaction. Must admit, mine's been a bit sore, but fortunately not in a rowing-impacting way.

Had a go at this today - can`t say I really enjoyed it as felt a bit artificial stopping 5-6secs before the end of the 2mins!!

SP total metres entered = 3326-19 =3307. A tricky number to judge pace not just when to stop rowing!!! A 5sec difference in first & last splits probably shows I played it too safe!!

ok...this one was hurting...it was not funny. Goal was to have zero rest meters. Just failed in the first interval. 6s is not enoug. With 7s you have no rest meters- but also a significant pace drop. Have fun who still wants to row it !

Impressive stuff, Claudius - especially keeping those rest meters so well under control.

Excellent work Claudius. Totally agree about 7 seconds being the sweet spot (but hard to hit), hated seeing the pace drop especially on a couple of intervals where I had to decide to stop or extra stroke,

It would not have made much difference today, not a great row and definitely not my favourite!

Good luck everyone else yet to do it.

Well done all.
I’m in danger of missing my 1st ctc for a few yrs due to a bad back ☹️
It’s eased slightly, so I’ll see how it is Sunday 🙏🏻

I'll try to get in a score today or tomorrow. Lost my workout/rowing room to remodeling. Lately I've been working on a shed to put my rowing equipment into but it's taking a long time to get done.

Rare second go for me on a CTC. Used my previous scores as a target and managed an extra 49m total to get to 3053m. Last time there were no rest metres, this time just the 3 in total (happy with that)

1 and only on the last day which is the day after race day.

3079 minus 1 = 3078.

Thanks - I'm just pleased I have found something that keeps my competitive juices flowing that my health allows - the long-term goal is the LDWA 100-mile annual walk - hopefully be ready for that in 2023, and slightly shorter-term is the Round the Island coastal path in 24 hrs(approx. 72 miles/115 km) next year.

Back on topic - didn't have time for a second go at the 6 x 2 mins but I don't go for the sprinty stuff anymore so not too bothered.
Well done though to all those who posted some brilliant efforts this month ^O^ ^O^
